Monday NBA Bullet Points
Dallas -3.5 AT Charlotte (200.5)
These clubs split their two meetings last season (Charlotte covered both games, including a blow-out HOME win over these Mavs (114-89) as 4 pt home dogs. The Mavs just concluded a 4 game home-stand (3-1 SU & ATS) including a (131-117) win over Minnesota as 11.5 pt favs on Saturday. A tough spot here for Charlotte tonight. Tonight is their 1st game back home off a lengthy 4 game West Coast roadie (2-2 SU & 1-3 ATS). Add on the fact that they will also be playing their 3rd game in 4 days tonight, including a (112-87) blow-out loss their last game AT Golden St on Saturday. The Mavs have been the NBA’s BEST ROAD TEAM over the last couple seasons & they are also (7-2 ATS L/9) playing on 1 day of rest & have covered 6 of the L/8 AT Charlotte. The Hornets are just (2-8 ATS L/10) HOME games when playing their 1st game back home off a road trip of 7 days or more. These Hornets also have some injury issues right now. Both Gary Neal & Michael Kidd-Gilchrist are (doubtful) while starters, Kemba Walker & Lance Stephenson are questionable ( I expect both Kemba & Lance to play tonight, however). The ‘very early money’ likes the Mavs and the OVER (for now) & I like the Mavs to get the job done tonight, in this “spot”.
Portland -3 vs New Orleans (203)
Portland won 3 of 4 SU vs New Orleans last season (just 1-3 ATS however). Portland won both meetings AT Portland, but failing to cover both times (winning by 3 and 6 pts). These Pelicans have covered 4 straight games vs the Trail Blazers when playing AT Portland. The Pelicans are playing their 1st game of their West Coast roadie tonight & they’re coming off a blow-out home win over the struggling Timberwolves (139-91) on Friday. Led by early MVP candidate Anthony Davis, these Pelicans have won 4 of their L/5 games coming into this evening. The Trail Blazers are also red hot and rolling. They have won 6 of L/7 SU and covered 6 of L/7 as well. The Trail Blazers are playing their 2nd game of a 3 game home-stand & are coming off a very nice home win over Brooklyn (97-87) on Saturday as 2.5 pt favs. It should be noted that Portland was w/out two of their top 5 players in Aldridge (respiratory illness) and Batum (knee contusion). For tonight’s game (as of now) Aldridge is questionable, while Batum is doubtful. Both players did participate in practice yesterday, FWIW. The Trail Blazers are just (2-8 ATS L/10) playing on 1 day of rest. The Pelicans are (5-1 ATS L/6) when playing on 2 days of rest. The ‘very early money’ grabbed the +4 on New Orleans & I have an “early lean” to the Pelicans side myself here. Things can surely change as the day progresses and the for sure availability of the questionable/doubtful Trail Blazer players status.
