(701) NEW ORLEANS PELICANS VS (702) CLEVELAND CAVALIERS

Take: UNDER

Reason: Both of these clubs are slower paced teams and that usually means unders. Looking at their play this year we see that New Orleans is actually 3-2 O/U on the year while the Cavs are 1-3-1 O/U/P on the season. Part of the Cavs issues are with the new players, particularly Kevin Love and Lebron James still learning to play with their new club. The Pelicans have the league's leading rebounder and shot blocker in Anthony Davis. While we think Lebron on the Cavs, it's Kevin Love who has actually had a bigger impact thus far, registering three double-doubles compared to just one for James. Five of the last meetings between these clubs in Cleveland have gone under and I look for that again here. Take the UNDER

Bonus Play Monday 7:05 PM NBA

(701) NEW ORLEANS PELICANS at (702) CLEVELAND CAVALIERS

Take: (701) NEW ORLEANS PELICANS +6.5

The Cavaliers are going to be very good eventually. It’s not a question of if, it’s just a matter of when. But it’s not at all surprising to see this star studded squad having some struggles out of the gate. There’s an adjustment period taking place, and it’s not outlandish to suggest it might take some time for all these pieces to fit together.

Making the task even tougher for Cleveland is the mindset of virtually every opponent. The Cavs are now the target team. Suiting up to challenge the Cavs is now a main event for each adversary, and while that’s old hat for LeBron James, it’s a brand new experience for almost everyone else wearing that Cleveland uniform this season.

Tonight will be no exception as New Orleans comes to town. The Pelicans should arrive full of confidence after an exciting win on Saturday against the defending champion Spurs and they’re a team that has started the season off in fairly impressive fashion. Aside from a really bad shooting game at Memphis, the Pelicans have been right there in each game and they appear to be a team that’s definitely on the rise.

The current numbers actually favor New Orleans here. Obviously it’s a small sample and early season data can be highly volatile. But if there’s a right time of the campaign to be looking for spots to beat the Cavaliers, it’s now, while the powerhouse entry is still trying to find its way.

I would expect this to be a good battle that goes right down to the last couple of possessions. I’ll be surprised if I don’t receive a big effort from the energized visitors, and the opinion here is the the Cavaliers will have their hands full for 48 minutes. The play for me is on the Pelicans plus the points.

Comp NBA Pick for Monday, November 10, 2014: 7:05 PM ET

(701) NEW ORLEANS PELICANS VS (702) CLEVELAND CAVALIERS

Take: (701) NEW ORLEANS PELICANS

Reason: Your Bonus Play for Monday, November 10 is in the NBA contest between the New Orleans Pelicans and Cleveland Cavaliers. New Orleans is coming off a big win at San Antonio on Saturday, 100-99 as a seven point dog. It was the club's second win in a row. Dating back to last season the Pelicans are now 6-2 ATS in their last eight games. The new look Cavs added Lebron James and Kevin Love to that of Kyrie Irving. While the Cavs are considered one of the favorites in the East, they haven't jelled too well yet with all the new additions. Lebron is averaging 23.4 ppg and Love 18 ppg. But still, the oddsmakers are making you pay for taking the Cavs and so far they have covered just two of five games. In fact, the Cavs won for just the second time straight up in five attempts with their last win over a very bad Denver team. Part of the issue is when you are trying to cover big spreads and you have a slow paced team, which is what the Cavs have been thus far evidenced by their 89.6 Pace (league average is 92). Meanwhile, the 3-2 Pelicans are led by Anthony Davis and his 24.4 ppg. New Orleans is also a relatively slow paced team (93.6). They have held four of their first five opponents to under 100 points. You want to go against Cleveland early because as soon as this team gets it together they will be awfully tough to beat. Your Bonus Play is on the New Orleans Pelicans.

Atlanta Hawks vs. New York Knicks

Jack's Free Pick Monday: New York Knicks +1.5

I certainly do not believe the Knicks are a contender in the East this season. I also am not that big on them in general, but there is value in backing them as 1.5-point home underdogs to the Atlanta Hawks tonight.

The Knicks have opened 2-5 after losing four straight games with their last three all coming on the road. The betting public wants nothing to do with them after what they've seen thus far, and you can't blame them. But it's also why they are showing such great value here as they should not be a dog to the Hawks.

It was going to take some time for the Knicks to get used to the Triangle offense, which is why I have faded them with some success in the early going. However, now that we are seven games in, they should start to see some positive results in this new offense under Derek Fisher.

I liked what I saw from them in a 96-103 road loss at Atlanta last time out on Saturday. They shot 47.6% from the field. That makes this a revenge spot for the Knicks as they get the opportunity to face the Hawks just two days later at home this time around.

The Knicks certainly won't be lacking any motivation, and they should put their best foot forward as they desperately want to put an end to this four-game skid. Also, tough scheduling was a big reason for the four consecutive losses. The Knicks had to play 4 games in 5 nights, which is one of the toughest situations in the NBA.

The home team has won three straight meetings in this series. New York is 26-8 at home versus Atlanta since 1996. The Knicks are 14-3 ATS in their last 17 games off three consecutive road games. New York is 33-17 ATS revenging a loss where its opponents scored 100 or more points over the last three seasons.

The Hawks are 5-15 ATS in their last 20 after scoring 100 points or more in their previous game. Atlanta is 0-5 ATS in its last five games following an ATS win. New York is 5-1 ATS in its last six games after allowing 100 points or more in its previous game. Bet the Knicks Monday.

Carolina Panthers vs. Philadelphia Eagles

Free Pick: Carolina Panthers +7

The Philadelphia Eagles begin life without quarterback Nick Foles when they host the Carolina Panthers on Monday night. Foles was injured late in the first quarter of last week's 31-21 win at Houston, giving the Eagles three quarters to acclimate Mark Sanchez to the starting role.Lets not forget Sanchez is the guy with the infamous Thanksgiving play, butt fumble for the Jets. Newton is 2-0 all-time on Monday Night Football with five touchdown passes and no interceptions, in addition to a pair of rushing scores. Carolina has a good chance to win this game straight up, but with 7 points there is too much value here not to grab.

Monday NBA Bullet Points

Cleveland -6/-6.5 vs New Orleans (204)

The 1st of two meetings between these clubs this season. New Orleans won both meetings vs the Cavs last season (of course the Cavs are a different club this season for obvious reasons). The Pelicans won AT Cleveland as 2.5 pt dogs. Tonight is just the Pelicans 2nd game in the last 6 days. They are coming off a (100-99) win AT the Spurs as 7.5 pt dogs on Saturday. Tonight is the Cavs 1st game back home off their week long, 4 game west coast roadie. The Cavs went just (1-3 SU & 2-2 ATS) on the trip, as the beat the big time struggling Nuggets by 9 points on Saturday & covered the -5 they were laying. The UNDER is (4-0 L/4) Cavs HOME games following a roadie of 7 days or more. The Pelicans have covered 4 of the L/5 AT Cleveland. The ‘very early sharp money’ is on the Pelicans side and the OVER here. I agree with the move towards the Pelicans myself, here.

Atlanta -1.5 AT New York (197)

These teams just played each other on Saturday night AT the Hawks. The Hawks won (103-96) as 6.5 pt favs, to sneak out the cover. So we have a fairly rare “back to back spot” here for these two teams tonight. The Knicks return home for their 1st home since coming off their 4 day, 3 game east coast roadie. They were (0-3 SU & 1-2 ATS) on the road trip. Melo is off to a slow/poor start for these Knicks. Both teams are playing their 3rd game in 4 days tonight. The Hawks are (0-5 ATS L/5) games following a ATS win. The OVER is (4-1 L/5) New York games when playing on 1 days rest. The ‘very early sharp money’ is on the Hawks side (for now) and the OVER (for now). I have a small lean (for now) on the Hawks, here.
