Oakland Athletics vs. Seattle Mariners

Selection: Oakland/Seattle Over 9

The Oakland Athletics will use starting pitcher Vin Mazzaro. Vin Mazzaro has had big pitching problems this season. In fact, Vin Mazzaro has a 5.31 ERA on the season. We see Vin Mazzaro giving up many runs once again tonight.

The Seattle Mariners will use starting pitcher Ian Snell. Ian Snell is also having big pitching problems this season. In fact, Ian Snell has a 6.63 ERA on the season. In addition, Ian Snell has a 8.31 ERA in his last 3 starts. We also see Ian Snell giving up many runs once again tonight.

With two struggling starting pitchers on the mound tonight, it's clear we should see a high-scoring game.

Take the Oakland Athletics/Seattle Mariners Over 9

JR TIPS

White Sox at Red Sox

The Boston Red Sox (70-53) dropped two of three against New York over the weekend to fall 7 1/2 games behind the first-place Yankees in the AL East after they lost 8-4 on Sunday after Josh Beckett allowed five home runs in eight innings.Boston will play the White Sox tonight who have won four times in their last 13 games at Fenway Park and is 2 1/2 games behind the first-place Detroit Tigers in the AL Central. The White Sox (63-61) played their last three series against the worst teams in each division of the AL but went 5-4 over that stretch and they dropped two of three against Baltimore over the weekend, losing 5-4 on Sunday.Chicago hit .219 over the series and will face Clay Buchholz (2-3, 3.99 ERA) who will try to take advantage of Chicago's hitting struggles.Buchholz is coming off a third consecutive impressive start after he allowed one run in six innings to beat Toronto 6-1 on Wednesday. It was the right-hander's first victory since his season debut July 17 and came after he lost his previous two starts despite having allowed three earned runs over 13 innings as the Red Sox failed to score while he was on the mound in either outing.Chicago will start Jose Contreras (5-11, 5.13), who recorded his first win in more than a month after allowing one run and three hits over seven innings in defeating Kansas City 4-2 on Wednesday. The right-hander had gone 0-4 with a 7.62 ERA in his previous six starts, failing to make it out of the fifth four times.Contreras is 3-5 with an 8.82 ERA against the Red Sox in his career and has a 10.26 ERA in seven appearances at Fenway Park and he wont have a chance tonight against this hot Boston offense despite facing sabatha last night who has knocked Contereras by the fifth inning the last 8 times they faced him.

Cleveland at Kansas City

I am taking a shot on the Indians who actually have been playing decently of late. The Royals have dropped 7 of the last 10 and the rallying call in KC is to avoid dropping 100 games. Frankly I am just not convinced that tonight starter for Trey Hillmans club Gil Meche is still sound physically. Gil, who I actually do respect as a pitcher, has struggled quite a bit since coming off the DL. He's surrendered 8 runs and 15 hits in the 10 frames worked. Although I do not place enormous stock in this he is also only 5-9 through his career against the Tribe. Indians lefty Jeremy Sowers has battled inconsistency all season and we need him to be sharp tonight, I don't need an All Star performance from Sowers against this weak Royals lineup. I just need a solid nights work. Key here is to get Meche out of the game by the 6th innning and then feast on the Royals horrid middle relief group.

Vin Mazzaro has had three straight good starts for the A’s while Ian Snell is coming off of his best start as a Mariner. Add in that neither team has faced tonight's starter and go Under.

A pitching matchup between Vin Mazzaro of the Oakland Athletics and Ian Snell of the Seattle Mariners may need seem like an obvious Under at first glance, but a close look reveals that Under is the play here.

Mazzaro had a terrible start, but he has appeared to turn a corner lately, as he has allowed three runs or less in each of his last three starts. Yes his stamina is a question mark, but he has the support of an excellent Oakland bullpen that has posted a 2.91 ERA over the last 10 games. It also helps that the Mariners offense is hitting just .251 as a team while averaging 4.00 runs over the last 10 games

The Oakland offense has been even worse, averaging 3.80 runs over this same span. This should make life easier for Seattle start Ian Snell, who is coming off of his best start in a Mariners uniform as he allowed one run and four hits in 5.2 innings vs. the Detroit Tigers last Wednesday. This is also his first career starts vs. the Athletics, which should work to his advantage.

In fact, this will also be the first time that Mazzaro has faced the Mariners, so we expect both offenses to struggle against these unfamiliar pitchers tonight.

Free Pick: Athletics, Mariners Under 8½ (+100)

Isn't that the idea of a buy group?

A buy group to me is what cork has put together, they buy the plays and post them for all to see and cork splits the buys down the middle with his own money.

by the way I was in one buy group over a year ago which I wasn't comfortable being in since I couldn't post the plays and I will never get in one of those again. Cork like groups I will join and have.

I agree 100%, fraser was stating that the plays would not be posted on the rx and would cut people if they did. That is when I ran. He was touting one tout all the time.

Not to PM members that are asking for plays! Read all the posts before you come to peoples defense. Have you heard Steve Mcqueen being accussed of PM'ing people for money? He runs legit groups from what I've heard.

How do I make it simple... ok I bought teddy covers today for $30 and Pm'd 20 people to send me $20 bucks for it. they do I just made $400 dollars on a $30 investment. I guess the point is if you want to make money don't use the Rx as a vehicle to make it.

Steve McQueen has PM'd me asking if I wanted to join a buy group whe I was looking for plays from YWN, he asked me if i wanted to join a buy group for Baseball prophet, what's the difference? I said no and moved on and ended up joining a buy group with Fraser.

The difference is he asked if you wanted to join a group and not send him money. I've seen the pm and it wasn't requesting to join the group it was as follows. if you want that play send me money
That's a big difference.

Al Demarco 5 Dimer is either on the Red Sox or Twins.

"another Run Line play, where I'm turning a big favorite into a slight underdog because of my willingness to lay the - 1 1/2 runs. "

Those are the only two teams who are slight underdogs on the RL.

Tips and Trends

New York Jets at Baltimore Ravens [ESPN | 8:00 PM ET]

Jets: The two big storylines for the Jets are the return to Baltimore of new Jets head coach Rex Ryan and the starting quarterback battle between rookie Mark Sanchez and Kellen Clemens. Ryan was an assistant coach for 10 years at Baltimore, including being the Ravens’ defensive coordinator the past four seasons. The Ravens had one of the top defenses last season surrendering just 15.3 points per game and 261.1 yards per contest. Sanchez gets the start versus Baltimore. The former USC star and No. 5 overall draft pick completed 3-of-4 passes for 88 yards last week while coming off the bench. Clemens, last week’s starter in the 23-20 loss to St. Louis, was 4-for-4 for 28 yards. The Jets’ first-string offensive line finally practiced together for the first time since camp started, but guard Alan Faneca (finger) and tackle Damien Woody (concussion) are questionable.

The Jets are 6-2 straight-up and ATS in their last eight preseason road games.

Key Injuries - Cornerback Darrelle Revis (hamstring) and guard Alan Faneca (finger) are questionable.

PROJECTED SCORE: 14

Ravens (-3, O/U 32.5): Baltimore’s stingy defense looked in mid-season form shutting out Washington, 23-0, in its Week 1 preseason opener last week. The Ravens out-gained the Redskins by a staggering, 500-196. Second-year quarterback Joe Flacco was 9-for-15 for 103 yards while playing two series, with each of his series resulting in a field goal. Flacco is expected to play more in this matchup. Troy Smith will follow Flacco. Smith was 14-for-30 for 200 yards and one touchdown last week. Recently signed journeyman Cleo Lemon could see action as the No. 3 quarterback as John Beck was injured last week. The quarterbacks should get good ground support from Ray Rice and Willis McGahee. Each running back has looked good in camp. The Ravens have one of the deepest talent position pools at defensive line and linebacker. Baltimore held Washington to one third down conversion in 11 tries, and 2.9 yards per rush attempt.

The Ravens have beaten the Jets 4 of the past five times they have hosted them.

Key Injuries - Wide receiver Mark Clayton (hamstring) and linebacker Terrell Suggs (heel) are both doubtful.

PROJECTED SCORE: 17 (UNDER - Total of the Day)

Game: Philadelphia Phillies at New York Mets

Prediction: Philadelphia Phillies

Reason: Ai Simulator 3* graded play on Philadelphia as they look to take 3 of 4 from the lowly Mets set to start at 1:10 EST. Everything going wrong for the Mets in recent months culminating with the Phillies sub infielder Bruntlett converting an unassisted triple play to end the game Sunday. Lee has been completely dominating since coming over to the NL Phillies and right now the Mets just don?t seem to have even a small spark of desire. Supporting this graded play is a system that has gone 41-14 for 75% winners since 2003. Play on any team with a starting pitcher who gives up 7 or more hits/start and posts a WHIP <= 1.000 over his last 5 starts. Phils are 15-5 (+10.0 Units) against the money line in road games versus a decent bullpen whose WHIP is 1.350 to 1.450 this season. Phils starter Lee is a near perfect 10-1 (+9.2 Units) against the money line in road games versus teams averaging 2.75 or less extra base hits per game over the last 2 seasons. Take the Phillies.

Game: Tampa Bay Rays at Toronto Blue Jays

Prediction: Toronto Blue Jays

Reason: Play on Toronto at 7:07 ET. Roy Halladay comes off a loss in his last start, 6-1 to Boston, but we expect him to bounce back here (at an unusually great price!) considering a 117-57 TSR on turf throughout his career. Tampa Bay is ten games under .500 on the road this year and scored just one time off Halladay (solo HR) the last time they faced him after beating him three times earlier in the year. Take Toronto.
