Tulsa vs. Mississippi State
Suggested Line 1: Mississippi State -3.75
Suggested Line 2: Mississippi State -4.12
Suggested Line 3: Mississippi State -3.98
Suggested Line 4: Mississippi State -4.02
PLAY: Mississippi State Bulldogs -1 (10 Units)
This could quite possibly be the worst and ugliest game of the College Football Bowl Season and that's an understatement. My system is picking the Mississippi State Bulldogs to win this game and cover the spread even with the late line movement we all saw occur early this morning. In the NFL that type of line movement usually indicates a serious need to bet the other way (see the Patriots versus Dolphins a few weeks ago) but in college it's a bit different and so are my numerical values. Mississippi State comes into this game with 3 wins on the season and a 3-7 overall record which has to be the worst Bowl Game team record in college football history yet they find themselves as a betting favorite versus a ranked Tulsa team that went 6-2 on the season. Tulsa was tremendous in the AAC Championship Game losing out to Cincinnati lead but covering the +13.5 point spread but I'd be a little worried if I was on Tulsa because that was their Super Bowl and now they face a 3-7 team with SEC talent. Mississippi State had a miserable season under Mike Leach and his "failed' Air Raid attack style offense. They are however coming off a 51-32 win over Missouri where the Air Raid attack was good. I think it's encouraging that in 4 of their last 5 games this season Mississippi State scored 24+ points and their defense will always give them a chance. I said this would be ugly and I meant it. Tulsa is without their leading touchdown scoring RB while the 3 potential quarterbacks that will play in this game have combined for 26 interceptions. Tulsa has 6 turnovers forced in 8 games, Mississippi State has 9 turnovers forced in 10 games (playing in the SEC). Advantage Bulldogs and I think that's what it comes down to. Tulsa really struggled to move the ball in the air against Cincinnati (166 passing yards) and are only 4-11 ATS in their last 15 games after throwing for less than 170 yards in their previous game. They've been great in Bowl Games in recent memory but Mississippi State is 4-1 ATS in their last five games played on a Thursday and they come into this game 3-1 ATS in their last four games overall versus Georgia, Ole Miss, Auburn and Missouri. UGLY GAME and I mean brutal but Mike Leach wins a Bowl Game and brings his coaching Bowl Record back to .500.
Trend of the Game: Mississippi State is 3-1 ATS in their last four games coming into this game.
Mississippi State 22, Tulsa 13
