We still have $4M in cap room to add another player thanks to Matt taking 6 months to make up his mind!

Mistake!
Messier all over again.
Will make this post season fun for us Nucks fans but they won't go to the final.
Too many pieces missing.

sundin is a nice addition for this team but they will struggle without luongo for this long.

it will take them time to mesh with sundin, but i dont see him making that major impact.

Coaster, this is so far from the Messier situation its not even funny. Mess was washed up when he came to Van and butted heads with some of the players right away. Won't happen with a class act like Sundin, and I don't believe he's close to being washed up yet either. The fact is Vancouver is short on offensive talent with lots of cap room, you now get a top line guy who is very well respected around the league, and you don't have to give up anything at all to get him. Not sure who he's gonna play with but I think he'll fit well with Demitra and give the Canucks a good 1-2 punch in lines. One guy doesn't make a team, but it sure as hell fills a big void for them and they lose nothing to acquire him. We do need Luongo back, but thats out of everyone's hands at the moment

That big stud in net is capable of taking the Nucks to the finals damn near all by himself if he's healthy.

When is Loungo expected to come back? Over the years the Nucks have always been one of the best defensive teams in the West but struggled to put the puck in the net. Now with the addition of Sundin when Luongo comes back if they can put a few in and give themseleves a couple goals in the playoffs each night that could be all they need. The big thing is IF they can continue to put the puck in the net because Luongo will keep them in every game to help maintain leads. Should be interesting.

This is an interesting situation that is nothing like Messier. From what I've heard, Mats is not very vocal, and is kind of a loner. I think here you have a quiet guy coming into a winning situation, where Messier was an asshole coming into a situation where losing soon became the trend.

Also, this is not a question of finding a place to put Mats. I think it is clear Mats will centre the #1 line beside at least one of Raymond and Wellwood. This does nothing to the 2nd line, except take more pressure off the Sedins, and allow them some time away from the other team's top pairing.

As much as I'd like to hate on this move, it makes so much sense. Furthermore, if the team does decide to go out and get another forward, it is clear he will slide in either beside the Sedins or beside Mats. Mats is a pro, and despite the Canucks being his #2 choice, I think he sees the fact that this is likely his last chance at a run. The pieces are there.

Mats Sundin is an amazing player, still maybe top 15 in the league. He is without a doubt the best player on Vancouver now (not counting goalies). Still, I don't see Vanc making any kind of a run unless Luango is on some streak like Giguere from a few years ago. Even then I can't see them competing with either the Sharks or Wings in a 7 game series, can't see any team in the West really competing with those two for a series.

Will at least give the fans something to watch all year and some hope though, along with one of the greatest Europeans of all time to play the game.

Clearly this move works for the Nucks because they were so far under the cap, but if sundin wanted to win the cup his better shot was in new york.

in the west he would have to get through detroit and san jose, and frankly i just dont see it happening.

in the east there are a few good teams, but no one who i really see head and shoulders above the rest.

i think the pens are overrated and the rangers struggle offensively night in and night out.

then you have the habs who i still think have goalie issues, and the flyers who still yet to solve their defense issues.

i keep hearing everyone jump on the bruins and capitals bandwagons, neither of those teams make a deep run.

Passthebuck: Yeah, that is the best part about the deal is Sundin now centering the number 1 line will free up the Sedins as the number 2 line. They won't have to go up against the top defenceman on the opposing team night in and night out.

jdigae: You are right, Detroit and San Jose are clearly the top teams in the West and even the entire NHL right now, I don't think anyone will get past these two in the Western conference. But when you have one of the top goalies in the world, the possibility is there that he can get hot for a series or two and steal a few games that otherwise they would have no business winning. Osgood looks brutal so far this year, so the Wings aren't exactly invincible. Canucks missed the playoffs last year, I think if we lost to either the Wings or Sharks in the 2nd or 3rd round of the playoffs most fans would call it a successful season.

I honestly don't think the Rangers are that much better then the Canucks even before Sundin signed. Not impressed with the Rangers defensive corp at all, I watched the Canucks put 6 goals past them a month ago and a few other teams have done that since. That being said, without a clear frontrunner in the East Conference they probably have a much better chance of at least getting to the finals then the Nucks do

Not necessarily so. They MAY only have to beat one of the 2. Like last season with the Wing. Not to take anything away from them but they had a aweful smooth path to the cup. In other words, there could have been a lot more difficult teams they could have played to get there.

Will you still feel the Pens are overated once Gonchar and Whitney get back?

>then you have the habs who i still think have goalie issues, and the flyers who still yet to solve their defense issues.

Price is a damn good goalie in my eyes. And better than anything that Philly has. And if that 11o your anniversary deal starts to gain any kind of momentum...watch out!

Bruins need to get the Montreal monkey off their backs. If they do, by beating them their selves, their momentum will be sky high as well. Not sure Washington has the goaltending to go all the way but anything can happen in the playoffs. And Detroit proved last season you can win with mediocre goaltending as long as everybody else is all on the same page. And you have a no.5 on your team named Nick Lidstrom.

How does Montreal have goalie issues? By this you mean Price is injured right now because you go on to say you think he is solid?? I am confused?

Oh I see now didnt realize you were quoting others in the thread because I also agree Price is a top 5 goalie in this league and Montreal does not have issues in net with him between the pipes at all

Agree with alot of what has been said here - except the messier comment.

The best line I heard about Sundin was he is exactly like trevor linden but with way more skill.

If that is the case I can't wait for him to gel with Team I give him at least a month to get up speed. Just a heads up Feb 21st HNIC Canucks and Leafs.

Canucks are 9th in Offensive Scoring & 6th in defensive scoring & are about to get better, we have already beat the Redwings twice this year.

Get on the bandwagon coaster - I hear they are planning the parade route past your house.

hahaha Fun times ahead in vcr.
