Inasmuch as Wayne "I am GOD when it comes to all matters of the Red Sox" is running his mouth again at CM in hif forum, I am posting a conversation between me and Ron Chimelis relative to the Sox inspired by Dan Shaughnessy and the related commentary,
For the record Ron is a person who is highly respected writer in baseball and sports commentary, as well as political and non political manners at the Republican and MassLive.
You may not agree with him(I obviously do), but all you need to consider is that no one including me is gospel when it comes to the Sox, and most importantly, that no one should be banned for politely expressing an opinion which differs from you know who.
Here you go-start at bottom ands read up including the commentary to Shaughnessy's article.
(Ron Speaking) Hi,
I’m not always a big Shaughnessy fan (he relies on old schtick and is living in the 1980s) but I did read this and it was pretty spot-on.
I also read the comments so you and I must be thinking alike.
A few of my own observations:
1. The people who link this to the White House visit are, as one guy wrote, clueless. People can like Trump, hate Trump, whatever.... this has NOTHING to do with that.
I care about politics and our country. I’m sure you do too. But people who can’t talk about ANY subject without sticking in their political views ... I’m sorry, but I get tired of that.
2. People that say “Fire Cora” have never run a business and could never run a team. The guy’s record last year was 119-57. Is it his fault Sale has been lousy and he can’t rely on Porcello or Price either? Is he out there pitching for them?
Let’s say his style, which worked so well last year, is not effective this year. OK. How about giving him a fair chance to adjust. Or does that mean fire the guy? Is every manager going to be fired in tough times? Last year doesn’t guarantee him a lifetime contract but my gosh, how can a manager be judged on a week-to-week basis in baseball?
3. I think people don’t understand the dynamics of the wild card playoff. The Yankees are going to win the division unless they absolutely collapse. That leaves Boston in the wild card hunt.
Do Fans expect Dombrowski to empty the farm system and barter the future just to play one do-or-die game that may end their postseason in 3 hours? Or try for the higher wild card so they get a home game? The Red Sox have a losing record at home anyway.
There weren’t that many pitching solutions out there out there anyway. The big catch was Zack Greinke, who had a list of 15 teams - in his contract - he would not pitch for. I guarantee Boston was one of them. Greinke has been opposed to pitching in big media markets since his days in KC 10 years ago. He hates the overwhelming attention and he’s been more honest about it than Price.
He had the right to reject a New York trade too.
The Red Sox have invested hundreds of millions of dollars in the guys they have now. I don’t blame Dombrowski for saying “make do and win with this.” There wasn’t much bullpen help out there, either.
As for a closer, everyone seems to want Kimbrel back but he was shaky at the end last year, the Cubs signed him in midseason and he’s been shaky with them.
I like seeing the Red Sox win (though my favorite as a kid in Illinois was the Cubs) but I’m so tired of fans demanding management buy a champion at the trade deadline as if they’re on sale at Walmart. Not a single World Series champion in the past decade (Giants 3 times, Red Sox twice, Cardinals, Royals, Cubs and Astros) did it that way. Thinking you clean everything up on July 31 is a fallacy.
4. Lastly, Shaughnessy is underestimating the Rays. They’re not underwhelming. They’re a good, solid baseball team, put together on a small budget but with parts that fit, and a very creative manager. It’s still hard to believe it, but Tampa Bay is legit.
Anyway, that’s my take. Always good to hear from you.

Hi Ron,
Sorry if you have already this, but some great commentary here in the comments section(not so much in the article itself) which I agree with in defense of DD and reasons for fall of the Sox this year.
