Thanks for the props. I've been meaning to update that one. Some other useful stuff (more geared towards sfotware and services for the perpetual traveler) are in the thread "The Offshore Toolkit."

A couple of other recommendations for the thread : MajorGeeks and Shell Extension City (the latter is for Windows users only.) Tons and tons of software, much of it free, some of it open-source, updated daily.

If you use windows I also highly recommend you get Aston Shell, which is a flexible, low-resource consumption GUI replacement for the standard Windows Explorer interface. It is configurable down to the pixel and runs much faster than Windows' stock GUI. It's $ 28.00 but worth every penny and you can try it for free for 30 days.

Linux users (or merely the Li-curious) who are running on Microsoft architecture may be interested in Cooperative Linux, a free, open-source method for running Linux on M$ without using VMWare or other similar apps.

I've heard exactly what you describe. My only guess is (it has something to do with -the memory resetting itself) What I know about a computer is less than your average 7th grader-I guess. But I notice it more after the computer has been on awhile and surfing a lot. Hard to say--Wish I knew.

Kidslick, Can't say that I've ever heard of that either, maybe you could call your computers' manufactor and see if they know.

CoreStreet has released a free version of SpoofStick, a browser plugin for IE and Firefox that helps defend a user against phishing attacks. If you are or someone you love is stupid enough to fall for a phishing attack, protect yourself with SpoofStick.

Eraser (if you need to REALLY make sure certain files are deleted...for example, if you're gonna sell an old computer on Ebay...)
