I'm using Mozilla Firebird as my browser and man am I happy.

Not only does it block all pop-ups (except the sites you tell it not too) but it also has a really cool auto-reload feature that will automatically refresh the page you are viewing to whatever time increment you set it for. 5 seconds, 10 seconds, 1 minute, whatever.

This is very helpful for non refreshing scoreboards and busy forums. Really cool browser.

You could save yourself most of the quick fixes, tips, etc. by taking some of your bankroll and getting a computer that runs one of the Windows NT operating systems (W2000,XP Home or Pro). Windows 98 is terrible at memory management and is the source of most of your problems.
S0, save yourself time downloading fixes and coaxing performance out of a terrible OS, buy yourself a Xmas present. You could get yourself a P4 system from Dell from $399. Why dick around with W98?

This is a great post.

I personally use adaware 6.0 and spybot (prefer spybot though)

I have also started using different web browsers. The first one is called Avant Browser and one talked about on this forum called Mozilla Firebird .

Also forgot to mention that I agree with using a Windows NT platform. The best is to go with Windows 2000 because it has the most updates for it. Thus, its flaws from its original version has been corrected more then any other platform. Also zonealarm is great for a firewall I use to use it when I first got my computer. I use NIS now.

hanover 00,

I agree with what you say except for one thing. I have several handicapping programs that might not work on another OS. I would hate to lose them or I would have left Windows 98.

Hi, oldmantime. You may have problems with some old DOS programs on W2000, but you shouldn't have problems with XP. They built in a DOS emulator in to XP. It still doesn't run everything, but I've found it to work with most old programs, even games.

Personally, I love W2000. It's sleek and fast without unnecessary code. Some of the recent updates have enabled it to run old programs as well.

What does it mean above; "does not affect Windows 98 se" (I have the second edition). Will it still be supported?

hanover,
I'm not sure if one of the programs is DOS, but it does something with a black screen first (like a dos) then comes up in Windows. That shows how little I know about puters. I think 98se must be a LOT better than the 98.

Oldmantime, Go here ;lifeprodw]Microsoft product lifecycle dates for a list of products that we become obsolete..

Un Fawking real how Micropuke gets away with abandoning their customers.

I just wish there was another product out there that could compete with Micropuke. As long as they have a monopoly, they can do what ever they want.

Thanks--I think: No1Cheater,

Has anyone bought one of the OS which are advertised at greatly reduced prices over the internet? (In reading their ads, they say the only difference is that it doesn't come in the fancy box and does not have a manual. But it's a fraction of the cost.
