And if they were playing BYU at home they would probably end up giving something like 27.
-----------------------------------------------

Really? That seems high to me as what would be expected. Oklahoma layed -16.5 at home vs 3 loss Mizzou last year. They layed -27 at putrid AnM late in the season. I definitely don't think flopping home fields would get you the same difference between last year's AnM and this year's expectation of BYU (Phil Steele calling for MWC championship). Maybe initially even more will be expected by the public from OU, since Bradford returns? I'm with you on the Sooners side, but I'm not sure this one is going up from 21. "Square Sharps" love to try and find dogs to bet on these early release lines, and I think this could be one of them. Should be interesting.
I don't know, OU gave up 22 points at home last year to a Cincinnati team who played in a BCS bowl game last season. But perception is everything and you could be right about BYU. And 21 is a key number in a lot of people's minds. 21.5 or 22 would scare a lot of people off. But 20 to 21 would get a fair amount play on both the OU side and those good mormons out there who like to gamble.

I was talking to a girl a couple of days ago who lived next door to a couple of Mormon "elders" (the kids that go door to door on bicycles). She said that they do not gamble, they do not drink alcohol or caffeine, but they do like pussy!

BYU is from the Mountain West, which is an even better conference . . .

They say they don't gamble, just like the baptists say they don't drink. But when they had that Baptist Convention in Las Vegas a few years ago, the Hilton Hotel broke an alltime record that week for sales of alcohol...And I'm betting not one drop of it was used for communion. :drink:

i like your take on idaho bs. its a game i had researched last week and idaho is the better team. just sometimes the "better on paper" teams just don't follow through.

i tell ya what though, ain't nothing better than seeing the Sooners take the field against a decent team and knowing that we might win by 60, but if they win it'll be by a **** hair and a prayer.

Agree Jake, NOT A Homer, But One Of My Fav. Games

i'm surprised like many of you that minny is giving a low 6 even on the road. i'm hoping all offensive pieces are in place as they are going to be explosive in the passing game. they also have good talent in lb corp and want to know if maresh or triplett start at wlb instead of cooper. they both have great linebacking size(cooper registers at a whopping 206 lbs). they also have nice size between the tackles and have a very good veteran secondary. we all know syracuse's problems and this 6 just doesn't add up.

6 is just great. Weber to Decker/Carpenter will put up a lot of 6's for my GG. Like Baylor & Troy a lot. Buffs giving less than 2 TD's, vs a rookie QB!! Love Cal also, 17 a tad hi, but will play @ that for a med. amt.! Also A&M looks like $$, NM has zip ret. on D, 2 of them are safeties. Aggies should win this going away. NM threw only 3 TD passes all yr LY! Hope these go up @ one of my books soon. Only 1 dog on my list so far, tho not unusual for the opening week. Well boys it's the start of mine & many of your fav. time of yr. Wish ALL you gentlemen the best of luck.<><>

-- I think Auburn thumps La Tech at home. I also think this line could get better in Auburn's favor because there are some who actually believe a WAC team could hang with a good SEC team. This will be a different team than last year's Auburn bunch and they will not be as easy to push around defensively as Mississippi State was for Lat Tech.

My thoughts exactly. Although Auburn's O was poop last year, I feel the same way here.

Army +6

Go go go go go!!!

I hate to say it, but I agree. Any time EMU is favored over any team outside of a high school team, take their opponent. I posted earlier this year in my EMU preview that I have them winning, but closer than the experts think.

Be careful! I see many of you salivating over #s that are worth ZIP. What are you going to do if A&M opens -14.5, Minny -7.5, OU -23???? Knee-jerking can get you on the wrong side of the eight ball. Value is what's important. Hopefully, today we get a real look at CRIS and the GREEK.

I can tell you that these lines are close to what the openers will be. They are similar to "lead" lines in a way. I will be waiting for the officials openers, but I can tell you that games I am looking at include:

Middle Tennessee +21.5 at Clemson. For a number of reasons, the only one concerning Joe Pub being that Clemson goes to Ga. Tech 5 days later and will conserve as much fuel as they can.

Wisconsin -14 vs No. Illinois. This is the type of game that Wisky does very well in. No. Illinois has to replace it's defense. Wisky looks to build momentum.

Nebraska -20 vs Florida Atlanta. A very bad spot for the Owls, who never cover in these types of games. Nebraska will be out to make a statement. The Owls have to replace most of the defense.

Memphis +17 vs Mississippi. Memphis has done well at home against Ole Miss. The Rebs are 0-5 of late as non-con away favorites. If Memphis can get some mileage out of it's juco transfers, this may be closer than expected.
