Do masks reduce your oxygen levels?
From big cities to small towns — and the entire province of Quebec — more and more places in Canada are making masks mandatory in indoor public spaces to help curb the spread of the coronavirus that causes COVID-19.
<section id="inread-wrapper-id-685" style="font-family: "Open Sans", sans-serif; font-size: 16px;"></section>The new rules have sparked some challenges, including from anti-mask groups and people spreading misinformation about mask-wearing. That's confused some Canadians who are left wondering if there's any truth behind some of the claims. Sharon P., for example, is concerned a mask might reduce one's oxygen levels.
The experts we spoke to said there's no truth to that claim.
"I haven't seen any medical or scientific evidence that shows that wearing a mask depletes your body of oxygen," said Dr. Susy Hota,
medical director of infection prevention and control at Toronto's University Health Network.
Nor do they let any harmful gases, such as carbon dioxide, build up, she said.
because masks are made to stop bacteria not viruses.
because the only mask that gives any amount of protection is an N95 and even then it is not 100%
because masks are pretty much only good in a medical setting, not in public.
many, many more reasons why masks are a false sense of security and not very effective at stopping the spread of a virus
but why bother with real scientific facts when it does not fit what you want to say so you troll around until you find something, anything that fits
what you want to say...
Yep! Masks work!
One month after statewide mask mandate, California’s daily COVID case average has increased by 162%
Though Newsom's mask mandate appears to have had little effect on the trajectory of the virus in California, the governor nevertheless this week imposed additional mask requirements on the state, ordering that most students who return to school in the fall will be subject to "strong mask requirements," namely that "all staff and students in 3rd grade and above will be required to wear a mask or face covering" during the school day.
Newsom, like many other public officials, has claimed masks are necessary to stop the spread of COVID-19, but his own directive from last month stops short at actually calling them effective, instead merely stating that they "could" help
