There are numerous factors in what makes a card saleable. Most cards, despite price, are literally only worth what you can sell them for.
In the case of James, if your dealing in graded cards (bgs 9.5 or 10), and buying right, your in good shape. I often times buy bgs 9.5 (hot cards) at 1/2 price and sell at close to full beckett price.
