I mean that a friend who knew Tom Brady or someone close to him got HIM to sign it....

does this ruin the value? I gave it to a close friend as a gift at Christmas time.

Just wondering what it's worth.

What are the top cards to purchase or seek after?

I remember when I was younger (maybe 6-7 yrs ago when I was like 12-13)... I always wanted a Wayne Gretzky Rookie card...

Hi-
You guys thought there was drama HERE? Go to the Becket website forum ...Its a whole different animal! By the Way- That Lebron Card is Being subjected to allegations of it being trimmed.....Thus the high Grade....Rumors are floating that a certain dealer has insiders grading cards for him...A 10 is very very very hard to achieve....This dealer just so happens to always get 9.5's and 10's...
That card pictured has a brief History, I believe of being grade 9.5 then re-graded as a 10...you guys can figure the rest....

No its not worth the investment ....IMO
Look what the Jordans worth now....not much compared to back in the day.....BUT its better than losing a $300 3 teamer any day!

ThePit however has very good deals ...and If you buy at the right time (before other...lol) then you can make a killing,,,,,,more so if you get them shipped and sell em on ebay...

Crazy Ivan, I don't have a subscription to Beckett. Not sure how much it costs for an online subscription. I never subscribed to the price guides becuse I just bought them during whatever season it was because it was a waste of money in the offseasons simply because there was no major activity on the cards unless that specific sport was in season. Well, I take that back, there was action......all price drops....

No reason to purchase it just to see that........

I would hold off on the Lebron card for 2 dimes. If he doesn't end up being one of the greatest ever, you'll be lucky to get 200 for it a few years from now. All he has to do is get an injury. If you're looking to invest in cards, you're better off to search for great deals in the classifieds on cards from 1973 and earlier from people how are in need of quick cash. You can make some killings doing this if you're patient.

Guys,

I have 2 factory sealed case of these Upperdeck cards. I am looking to sell them by the box for about $50 per box. They say that you are guarantee to get a Lebron card with a piece of the court that he played on in each box.
If anyone is interested...shoot me an email to nglam_1103@yahoo.com.

I'll put my $2000 in an Index stock fund and you put your money in this. Even paying taxes on my gains I will kick your ass over almost any period: 5, 10, 20 years.

Not sure if it SPX...all I know is that it is Upperdeck hardcourt.
I don't know much about cards...was told by a local card shop that each box contains that card...supposedly worth a lot of money.
Card shops have stopped selling packs because people were feeling the packs for the hardwood...

I've been collecting since 1971 and the real value is to sell that card now (eBay?). Turn around in a year or two and buy is for half its price. Part of the reason it goes down is the number of cards that enter the market, and people chasing the "next best thing". That is a nice card but it is at its ceiling now. As more and more LeBron autos/game-used jersey cards enter the market, collectors have more options-therefore lowering the price.

I would never buy graded cards myself, maybe if I were selling I would get some of them graded. I am working on sets from the 60's on eBay and it is unbelievable how little some of them go for.

Seems to me the Hockey cards hold the most value. They have by far the smallest print run.

Ivan - Do you collect hockey. Some of the Be A Player cards have some great potential. They are from Canada and have small print runs.

fairwarning had good point. sell now and buy back later at less than half.
very few and i mean very few cards hold there value.
i used to do alot of this with racing diecast and hotwheels.
sell the new stuff high, dont hold and used the money for the older stuff.
case in point ,hot wheels have treasure hunts inserted in cases. i sold all the new ones at 25.00 or so apiece and used the money for the first run(1995's) i got a least 2 dozen camaros that easily sell for 250+ for as little as 500. 600 for all.
cards are tough to collect to many chances for injury ,non production or many other reasons.
best advise(1) dont buy anything that you dont care to look at because you maybe the only person that wants it.
(2) best collectable investment pieces are definately DEAD PRESIDENTS . LOVE THAT 100.00 BEN IT'S MY FAVORITE AND LOOKS GOOD ANYWHERE.

Lebron James hype will never be higher than it is now. That means card value will only go down. The Cavs are not going anywhere. Pretty soon this hype is going wear off. How are those Penny Hardaway rookie cards doing? Remember how hot his cards were? The next Michael Jordan?

I stopped collecting cards when I was like 13 or 14 maybe at the most.

I have a lot of cards (90% hockey) binders full of star rookie cards, and bunch of crap players...
