I have been gambling for 8 years and I still go through ruts where I start to lose control, even if only for one play, and even if it hits, it does not cure the problem.
About 6 years ago, I had been a + gambler for two years. The previous football season I went the whole year without one losing week. Then, within a 4 week period, I tanked hard. Lost about $5,500. I was a college student, didnt have shit, the money that I had saved form working and winning (that I didnt spend on partying) went down the drain. It cumulated with a $1200.00 loss on Pittsburgh in the AFC championship game. I thought I would never bet on another game again.
But, of course that was not true. Within 6 months, the sting of the loss had worn off and I started fresh with a nice small roll. I was betting $10.00 a game. The thought of a $10.00 bet six months prior, when a had over a G on one game, would have seemed ridicolous. But the suprising thing, the sting of a $10.00 bad beat (my lunch money), was the same as the AFC Championship loss. Looking back, I had desensitized myself. You have clearly done the same.
Throughout the last 6 years, this cycle has repeated itself, although not as severe, several times. I am a gambling man, and it has been a constant struggle to supress the urge to go big and stick to my bankroll. Lately, since I have taken MMA betting seriously, I have been very disiplined. But twice last year, Machida - Evans and GSP - Alves, I was having bad cards and chased big time. Even though I won the plays, I felt terrible. Because I let myself slip.
My point is, if you are willing to put your life savings on one football game, you have a gambling problem. It will not go away. It is not normal, many people would never dare it. You are a special breed. Most of us here are. Hopefully over time you can control it and become disiplined. But it will take time and 6 weeks from now, the money you have lost will be an after thought. You will still have 15K for your hard work, and you can start fresh with a managable bankroll. And it will be a challenge you can gladly accept.
