vern is probably the worst i've ever heard. can't keep names straight and half the time doesn't know which teams are on the field. impossible to listen to imo .... geezus, i can't stand the "ohhhh myyy" and "oh boy" crap. he's really borderline retarded

all time favs were keith jackson and lindsey nelson. musberger is pretty good but not in the jackson/nelson class

Mussberger came up through the ranks on TV where he gained eventual popularity. His big issue is his penchant for sports-wagering.
Rumor has it that he has bet on every game that he was the TV commentator for the past 20 (plus) years. Also known are the "withdrawal pains" that he experiences after the last game of the year resulting in periods of depression and drinking........I wonder if he bets on the East-West game ? Some guys resort to women to take the "edge-off" after the last game of the season. I suspect there are some guys right here in the Rx that have large stables-of-women they can resort-to so as to prevent withdrawal-pains from occurring.

Ask me when Musberger is gone.

The problem with these questions is that guys usually go the nostalgic route. Ask me Summerall or Al Michaels and I say Summerall, but that is because of the memories and not a true testament to their announcing.

I liked Musberger when Keith was still around, but I liked Keith just as much. In the end, I'm probably siding with BM.

You aren't being nostalgic. Summerall was the all time best announcer as far as I'm concerned. It was really painful to see how much he had slipped when FOX brought him back to do the Cotton Bowl a few years ago.

Al Michaels and Collinsworh are solid though no doubt. The problem I have with Michaels is his gigantic ego.

As far as the original topic. Keith Jackson without a doubt. I'm not a huge Musberger fan, but I dont get all the hatred towards him that I don't hear about other announcers. I do appreciate the gambling references I must admit. And he does a good job of building up the excitement in the pregame.

i'll take musburger and michaels and anybody else if there is anyone who regularly references gambling and betting lines.

you are not true to your professiion if you don't acknowledge what a large part of your audience is interested in.

If were talking college football only i'd go Jackson by a nose (but like/d) both. .... but both guys have covered a wide array of different sports and i'd take Musberger as overall sportscaster but Jackson for cbb specific. .... (i remember Jackson and Chris Shenkel covering the olympics back in the 70's , lets just say it was a good thing abc had jim mckay)

AHA!! I was wondering when someone would mention Lindsay Nelson. That man's voice is engrained in my brain from childhood.

(By the way RT, I was also trying to be specific about Eddie O's voice as an iconic character that comes along once in a lifetime in the other thread back when. Nothing about anyone's antics were intended by me to be a part of the discussion. The whole sport would be one big ugly stain if we can't forgive, forget and move on provided that the jive BS ceases to be as it should.)

And by the way, Muffburger has issues himself.

I heard that ESPN is going to pull Mussburger from the Saturday night broadcast. I've got to admit I always enjoyed trying to guess which team he bet on. I'll miss all of the gambling references. One thing I will give Muffy credit for. He hosted the best NFL pregame show of all time when he had Jimmy The Greek, Irv Cross and Phylis George on the show.

ESPN's NY brass that deemed an apology by Muffburger for ogling and commenting about Katherine Webb was the right thing to do proves beyond any doubt that the geezers that run the network are all closet wankers.
