No, we don't need Vern slobbering all over himself over the SEC ... We don't need Vern and his " oh my goodness " every other play...He can keep his regular season gig with all the fans waving pom poms on Saturday

Jackson is great but I give musberger the nod because he's a degenerate gambling Ole Dirty Bastard! Never know when he's gonna surprise with a bold unexpected statement. Even herbie is caught off guard every so often. I'm sure barkley doesn't appreciate the musberger comment with his weell known gambling problem. Hahaha

And 9/10 times those afternoon CBS SEC games are the most entertaining games of the day. And no, unlike some, I'm not a conference homer. The thought of vehemently defending or insulting a damn CFB conference is so low on my radar, it doesn't even register, but I see where you're trying to go with this. Sad.

No, where I was going with this thread is Jackson & Brent.. others including yourself brought in a homer announcer from another network..

Ask me when Musberger is gone.

The problem with these questions is that guys usually go the nostalgic route. Ask me Summerall or Al Michaels and I say Summerall, but that is because of the memories and not a true testament to their announcing.

I liked Musberger when Keith was still around, but I liked Keith just as much. In the end, I'm probably siding with BM.

If he were still alive this would have been a good night to bring in Keith Jackson one more time as guest announcer. He's the one who nicknamed the Rose Bowl the "Grandaddy of them all." KJ had many more colorful sayings in his vocabulary than BM does.

Keith also never got fully torqued in the booth over AJ McCarron's girlfriend.

But the answer is Keith Jackson even though as someone mentioned he was slipping in his later years.....I don't know if we will find another one as good as Keith regarding college football (at least I haven't found one yet).....An icon and legend.

In the 2002 BCS championship game, Jackson called EVERY Ohio State running back "Clarett."
