He's completely reinvented the genre numerous times. The guy is a stud no matter how much everyone hates him for being an asshole.

This was his 1st album. It's still one of the best albums of the last 15 years.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UGdRs6sfNQ4

Kante put out a great 2nd album. It's clear the guy used to make most of the hit songs for other people.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Km5_GUE5l8U

Then he went to shit for a little bit. Roughly 5 years. Put out 2 albums or so. Some solid songs, mostly commercial garbage. Bought into his own BS.

Then he completely renewed what hip hop was in his latest album. His album is completely different from anything before and it works so well.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UY982Uo2TPI

His latest album might be his best, although I think it starts off a lot better than it finishes. There's a lull after the first half then it picks up toward the end.

Apologies for being late to the party. I am a big fan of all genres of music, which includes hip hop - not a fan of the current direction it is taking but still.
Jake, I agree with you on a lot of your posts in this thread. I still listen to college dropout (actually listening to it right now, Great album). You are correct saying Kanye has changed the hip hop scene. He is not afraid to change his style, where as many artists are very afraid to do something different and go outside the box. In fact, Every album of his, his style and direction is different.

You say he went to shit for a little bit and Yeezus is his best album? - are you forgetting, 'My twisted dark fantasy' ? That was far, far from shit, he actually made a 30 minute-plus video with (almost) every song in it and it is pretty good - so much better then Yeezus.

808s was good

The album he cameout with in 07 when he was competing with 50 was good, think that was Graduation.

He's done a lot of producing and writing for JayZ. I don't listen to a ton of rap, have no clue who any of the guys Jake linked are but I do like good mainstream rap, especially old school like Run-DMC, Nas, Pac, Tribe, some Wu-Tang, some Niggas With Attitude (particularly Fuck The Police, always blast that when I get pulled over)

Anything like Southern, Crunk I can't get into.

Good point. Maybe shit wasn't the right word. I liked some stuff off those albums. Just felt like he was making a lot of generic songs instead of being original. Kinda cookie cutter at times. Front to back the albums weren't awful. Just didn't like some of the stuff that got on the radio.

You seem to have knowledge on hip hop...

I am an ignorant on the genre but I think is good music to exercise or play poker... do you think you can make up a small list of old school (80s-90s) rappers you consider to be really good besides 2pac, biggie, coolio, cypress, run dmc, public enemy, etc?

I am a big fan of the late Big L, he was the master at punch lines, he has some great songs (and freestyles, check out 7 min freestyle w jay z) - 'Ebonics' is one that comes to mind, where the whole song is just him telling u what words mean.

(Even tho, he is not 80s-90s) joe budden is great, he doesn't do radio songs, his songs are all about lyrics. Check out; 'all of me' or 'dear diary' for starters.

The 37-year-old musician/designer/entrepreneur began it by storming the stageat the Grammys after the mild-mannered Beck was awarded Album of the Year for his comeback LP Morning Phase, and followed it up with a post-show rant about how Beyoncé should’ve won (he’s since apologized). He hosted his first runway show during New York Fashion Week in conjunction with Adidas, which was met with mixed-to-positive reviews. He got involved in a feud of sorts with ex Amber Rose, saying he had to take “30 showers” after dating her, and only dated her because his now-wife, Kim Kardashian West, wasn’t giving in to his advances yet. He was awarded the Visionary Award at the BET Honors ceremony, where he gave a candid, poignant speech on race. And Kanye announced that the title of his album due out later this year will be: So Help Me God.
Now, it seems the Internet has sought its revenge.

Starting early Sunday, someone has devised a bit of a prank on Mr. West. If you type “www.loser.com” into your web browser, the site will redirect to Kanye’s Wikipedia page.

Try it.

It will be interesting to see Kanye’s reaction. After all, hell hath no fury like a Yeezus scorned.

He looks so angry all the time. His mom should have told him not to make that face or it would stick.

[h=1]Kayne West offered deal by casino owner to help pay off $53 million in debts[/h] Marie Kelley

<section class="cb-entry-content entry-content clearfix" itemprop="articleBody">Casino owner Derek Stevens wants to use his Las Vegas venue to try and help Kayne West get rid of the major debt the rapper has accrued, $53 million to be exact. The Downtown Las Vegas Events Center owner has provided a solution to Kanye after learning of the rapper’s debt based on a Twitter post from Monday.
Kanye originally tweeted about his debt on Monday on Twitter and asked Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of Facebook, to help him pay off the $53 million by investing $1 billion in his ‘ideas’. Zuckerberg has yet to respond. However, Stevens did provide the rapper with somewhat of a solution.
On Twitter, Stevens offered Kanye a deal. If Kayne would agree to hold a concert at his Downtown Las Vegas Events Center, he would let Kanye take all the revenues from tickets. The venue can hold as many as 10,000 people. Stevens would only want to keep the proceeds from the bar sales. Stevens also owns The D and The Las Vegas Club in Sin City.
Kanye has performed in Las Vegas before so this would be nothing new. However, the rapper has yet to respond as to if he would consider taking the deal offered by Stevens.
