hehe, you are lost bro!

In this stage (quarterfinals) you just have two games, one away and one at home, and the global score results will decide who goes to the next round! the away goal is very important because the away goal count like special goal, you know, a good example is the 0-0 Barça-Benfica score, in the next game any draw with more than 0 goals is a next round ticket for Benfica, if Benfica scores, Barça is obligated to win the game straight up in regular time

Yes, I was lost before your explanation. Thanks for taking the time.

Jack, thanks also.

milan where as per usual proffesional, it's nice to see a good italian team around with all the bastardization going on in mixed nation teams, and they were just that today italian, man i was watchin their defence, it was inpenetrable, i was actually trying to figure out how they did it, didn't watch the game too closely but at no point where they actually threatened, and to shut down a team such as lyon is no easy feat.

A fan of milan, wouldn't say the same for juve.

Good man! Milan has that Azzurri-style stingy defense. Nesta, Mr. seven and a half (hope that sticks, ha), is quite the player, best cb in the world for my money. Alessandro for premier...

Offense will be needed on the return...

I ve waited a long time to hear someone say this, Nesta is for me absolutely THE best center back in the world as well, used to like ajala, valencias argentina center back, but he's had some injury worries, but nesta is just too classy, one of the few defenders that are a joy to watch, fast, technical, clinical, clean, smart, you name it...don't have enough praise for him. And let's not forget the great paolo maldini either since we are on cente backs.

As as the offence goes, it comes to show what good scouting can do, milan paid 1/6 of the money for kaka that real did for robinio, and look at the differnce, i like kaka a lot too, and another player I absolutely adore for all the different reasons than nesta is pipo inzaghi, that little piece of shit, that fly, has nothing most modern forwards have in terms of technique or power, but he's always there and be it with the head, foot or body he ll find a way to stick it in, nasty shit, in a good way of course, he's so volatile and skinny you are afraid he ll drop down or get squized by the defence, but he always gets the last laugh.

Hey, great post, I agree with everything you said. Maldini was Nesta before Nesta...I'm realy going to miss him playing for the Azzurri. Good point about how Milan is run. Hate him or love him, Berlusconi has turned Milan from a mediocre club in the early 80's into one of the most successful and well run clubs in the world the last 20 years.

I have a really good feeling about the offense in San Siro vs. Lyon. They will have Juninho back for some added offense, but I got faith in Shevchenko, Kaka, Inzaghi (great points about him), and the rest to get the job done.

Interesting take Jack. I love Nesta (and Cannavaro and I am Italian), but what about John Terry? The guy is an absolute beast, very technically sound and rarely seems to make mistakes. Probably splitting hairs when you talke about guys of this class, but just love the debate and soccer talk.

Also, 100% agree on Inzaghi. GOD I hope Lippi takes him over that overrated piece of shit Vieri. I never could figure out the love affair with that guy, he needs 15 attempts to just get one on net, let alone in.

Vieri was injured a few days ago and may have some ligament problems...but he should be ok for germany, fortunately or UNfortunately I guess one could say. His knees are just shot and he's not close to the player he once was. He and Lippi are friends so if he's able to he'll play...

That is the last thing I wanted to hear. With Totti's health, Del Piero's age (and likely inability to play 90 minuts every game), they have to take 6 Fs, no? Totti, Del Piero, Toni and Gilardino are givens. Then you would think they need another scoring F and playmaker as insurance for Totti and Del Piero. Cassano is the only playmaker and he is fat and out of form. As for scoring Fs they choose between Iaquinta, Luccarelli, Pippo and Vieri. Can they really choose Vieri? Seriously? God I want to poke my eyes out just thinking about that.

"Hate him or love him, Berlusconi has turned Milan from a mediocre club in the early 80's into one of the most successful and well run clubs in the world the last 20 years."

I am not that keen on mafiosos but he's got excellent adminstrative skills berlusconi for sure. Milan could have easily been the champions for 3 years in a row hadn't it been for a few flukes along the way.

"I have a really good feeling about the offense in San Siro vs. Lyon. They will have Juninho back for some added offense, but I got faith in Shevchenko, Kaka, Inzaghi (great points about him), and the rest to get the job done."

Lyon are a great team too, but they have a major problem on the bench with what is the most overated coach in europe (that and errikson) gerarld hullier.

I love soccer talk too, terry has made tremendous progress over the past couple of years and like you said it is like splitting hairs at this level, he's a fantastic player too, very stable too, but I d take sandro over him because he seems to me more astute.

"Also, 100% agree on Inzaghi. GOD I hope Lippi takes him over that overrated piece of shit Vieri. I never could figure out the love affair with that guy, he needs 15 attempts to just get one on net, let alone in."

Are they even debating this? Vieri at the moment is good enough for many things, a talk show, the cat walk, a travelling circus...but football's not one of them. There's a huge fuss over this I guess, and I ve been reading a interview of vierri sucking up to lippi to take him in, is that if he nets another one that will be his tenth goal on a world cup and he ll be top world cup scorer for italy (or is it for any team, doubt it but it could be) in history.

Yeah, from what I have read the unfortunately are. Vieri was selected for the Germany game over Luccarelli, Cassano and Pippo, although he didn't play. Inzaghi hasn't been called up in something like 2.5 years, since late 03 (I believe). He is doing his best to force a call up, he has been in great form.

Gerd Mueller is all time leader in WC Goals, I believe with 15, then Pele at 14. Ronaldo has 13 or 14 too.

Here's a good link that discusses, as it stands, the 23 players to be taken...it's in Italian, but still easy to decipher if you can't read it. It's about a month old though....

http://www.gazzetta.it/Calcio/Nazionale/Primo_Piano/2006/01_Gennaio/02/mondiali.shtml (not sure if links are frowned up here, sorry if so)

The article lists the attackers as Totti, Del Piero, Toni, Gilardino, Cassano, Vieri/Iaquinta. That's six, and the article also notes Lippi's "special passion" for Vieri.
