don't think i can collect unemployment considering they didn't "fire" me, they tried to demote me.. to a part time $6.55 an hour worker after i'd been making $35,000 a year salary. I declined that horrible option, thus I quit and wasn't fired.

yes you can..........fwiw

If your company offers you a different job at less salary and you don't take the job, you can receive unemployment benefits.
We just had layoffs at my place of employment (again). My friend refused to take a job that was paying less. 30% pay cut and a different job title. Management told him he was not eligible for it
they were wrong

He has unemployment benefits for at least 12 months, $400 dollars a week .

What they are doing to most employees is lay them off...This way no severance, because they could bring you back when things change.

I just got off the phone with him. He told me If you position was eliminated or you were offered less pay, you would qualify

He was making $37.00 an hour. The company eliminated 11 jobs from my department. they offered him a job at 70%. He said no

This is his 3rd week of unemployment. He also received a severance package $56k before taxes for his 18 years of employment

G Money I have seen a lot of people get laid off where I work. The building that I work in can hold 5,000 employees. I believe there are only 1,100 workers today. I am getting closer to the bottom of the list
I started in the year of 1986:drink::drink:

stef he is 54 years old with a medical condition. I believe at 55 you are allowed to take out your 401k without penalty. (I may be wrong)
I also thought he said he can take social security at 55 at a reduced rate.

I will ask him on sunday

I think its 59 and a half on that no 10% penalty 401k withdrawl. He might be better off getting a disability retirement, think they have better rules.

Disabilty retirement is very very hard to get here in Ill. I have had a secretary that really qualifies but is having to jump thru big time hoops to even be considered

I sacrificed everything and moved 17 hours away from home. I have worked 70 hour weeks for the last 7 months and was just told on Tuesday that I am being laid off. They want me to finish the project I am on so they told me to stay until April.

I would like to go back home where I still have a home and girlfriend and start looking for jobs. If I leave earlier then when I was going to be laid off would I not be able to collect any unemployment?

I was out of work for the better part of two years after 9/11.

After about 3 months I went to Ca. and worked 2 jobs leaving my family behind and that really really sucked.

Did that for about 8 months and then came home and it took another year to find my current job.

I collected $485 a week in 2003 and this is when I found my first gambling message board......LOL

Any way I handicapped baseball till the wee hours of the morning, woke up and delved into some more.

The one sport if you crunch numbers and have a feel for the game you can be successful.

Unemployment kept extending my claim and I found current job in Nov,just when bases were over.

Food for thought for you unemployed degenerates.

Dante they did that with our company 3 years ago. In the year 2007 Newsday made 98 million dollars in profit. 78 million newsday /20 million A.M. new York.

Another food for thought on those collecting unemployment benefits.

Besides trying to make under the table money on up coming baseball season, get a menial job at a gas station or something.

Maybe 20 hours a week and unemployment will send you the difference as to what you would have collected and what you made.

This way you won't drain all your eligibility and will stretch out your weeks/months hopefully not years.

But looks like you guys will be out of work for a long time, sad but true.

Also on your 3 contacts a week,it's a fucking waste of time and gas.

Fax and or e-mail your resume and your golden.

I use craiglists and e-mail 3 a week. Not sure how other states are but in Washington you can get a max of 541.00 a week and if you work they charge you 75% of what you make against your umemployment money. Also I think their are up to 33 weeks of extension available currently because of how bad it is.

Yeah Wa. is a good state to be collecting.

Wa. also has the highest min. wage, learned that from Andy Rooney.
