Hey, did you find a boat already?

Plans have changed a bit. We are going to try a Lake Arenal fishing trip on Sunday, so we have a chance to see the volcano as well. We'll have to hit the ocean on the next trip.

How long do you think it will take to get to La Fortuna from the Cariari area? 2.5-3 hrs? Makes it tough to get up early enough to get to anywhere in time to fish

My advice for traveling from San Jose area to La Fortuna (or actually to pretty much anywhere in CR) would be to fly. See NatureAir.

It's at least an order of magnitude safer than riding the treacherous mountain roads, provides incredible views, and is much quicker. Probably about $50 or $60 each way.

Also, I'd highly recommend whitewater rafting in the Arenal area. Not the strongest rapids I've ever been on (they had claimed it was a Class IV -- maybe in parts), but certainly some of the most picturesque. And then if you're looking to ease sore muscles and bruises, the Tabacon hot springs make for for a great post-rafting destination.

Thanks for the info. We have Sunday open and are trying to decide between the coast and Lake Arenal for fishing. Funny I didn't think of flying. :ohno:

Not sure man, I never fly local.

Sansa used to be part of Lacsa which was like the national airline who then merged with Taca I believe. They should be alright.

I would recommend going to the beach to fish.. There is a 99% chance that it will be cold windy and raining up at arenal... Was just there a week ago and it poured and was freezing the whole time we were there. The beach will be perfect no clouds and plenty of sunshine.

I lived there for six months and it pretty much rained the whole time. The weather up there changes so much. Lake arenal is ranked as one of the world best wind and kite surfing places on the planet. So it will be windy with a really huge chance of it to be raining the whole time. Go to jaco or quepos and go fishing I actually have a buddy in quepos that is doing charters I could get you his number if you want.

I tried to sell him on Quepos too, I dont know who the pussy was that talked him into going fishing for suckerfish at the lake. Stay at Tilawa if you are going to the lake though, that place is sweet.

That's the thing though. We got a package deal on the hotel in Belen that can't be refunded, so if we stay the night somewhere else we would be paying twice. All our trips are gonna be day trips.

Anybody else going to join us for the tope in Ciudad Colon on Saturday?
