Serie A – 2 September, 2007

Palermo at LIVORNO
As mentioned prior, believe Palermo will struggle in the first half of the season. Livorno is a bad team (although the recent acquisitions might help down the stretch in avoiding the relegation chamber, with one Erjon Bogdani providing much needed help at the midfield slot). They will Miss Marco Ameia tomorrow, whose name has been thoroughly mentioned in market moves. However, Livorno’s fan base is one of the best in the league, and has always been a decent catalyst for the home side, who is much more comfortable (and productive) on home turf. Worth the shot IMO, with the decent value on the PK line.
LIVORNO pk +126 (3 units)
LIVORNO over 2 and 2.5 –107 (3 units)
Palermo 4 LIVORNO 2

Siena at ROMA
It would pain me if Roma ends up winning this match 1-0 or 2-1. In accordance with that philosophy, I’ll bypass the straight –1.5 line, for –1.5 and –2 +102. If game unfolds in accordance, don’t remotely see Siena scoring (unless – of course – they convert if given a penalty kick). Roma stronger this year, especially at midfield, and Siena somewhat weaker (especially on defense). Could it be any different that last year’s season opener, which saw Roma beat Siena on the road 3-1. I know it’s Serie A, where anything can happen, but do not believe it’s going to happen today at L’Olimpico.
ROMA –1.5 and –2 +102 (3 units)

Never been a fan of the fat –1.5 line. However, first half line might just sneak under the radar.
FIRST HALF: ROMA –0.5 and –1 –106 (3.5 units)
ROMA 3 Siena 0

Reggina at TORINO
I am hoping this year’s version of Torino turns out to be last year’s version of Empoli, especially when playing at home. Both of these organizations respectably despise one another, so yellow and red cards are always in the picture. Similar styles between these two, with efficient speed at midfield and front three; primary difference is on defense, where Reggina has not made any significant improvements. Torino will be aggressive in newly devised 4-3-3. Don’t need Rosina to score today, as supporting cast should has clear size advantage.
It’s the TORO for me.
TORINO –0.5 –124 (3.5 units)
TORINO 2 Reggina 2
(90th minute goal by Reggina. If Toro held, would have had a very good week)

Parma at ATALANTA
A chess match of newly devised 4-4-2 defensive formations (especially with Atalanta). Home side is extremely tough at home, and will probably not settle for a draw before travelling to Fiorentina next week.
ATALANTA pk and –0.5 –122 (4 units)
ATALANTA 2 Parma 0

As I mentioned in the B, season has just started; so take it easy. Nothing truly stands out. Minor recommendations with Torino –0.5, and Atalanta pk and –0.5. I know that Juventus / Cagliari looks like a solid under, and Catania / Genoa, a strong candidate for the over, but I’ll save these units for the Lazio / Sampdoria match.

4W-2L-1T (+4.47 units)

Lazio at SAMPDORIA - This should be an entertaining match. With Samp at home there are no inbetweens, it could easily be 0-0 or 3-3.
I am hoping for the ladder.

Playing:
Lazio at pk +130 (2 units)
OVER 2 and 2.5 -121 (2 units)

good luck,

MA

SAMPDORIA 0 Lazio 0
same old Samp.

Pending plays to start the week:

SERIE B:
Bologna pk -121 (6.5 units)
Bologna over 2 and 2.5 +104 (2.5 units)

SERIE A - 3 September 2007

Fiorentina at AC MILAN
Let's face it, AC playing well to start the season. Fiorentina impressive on their opening win against flat (and problem filled) Empoli. Different scenario for them here; a road game in probably the toughest Serie A stadium. Not many can come here and pluck out a win, let alone a draw. No Ronaldo in Ancelotti's 4-3-2-1, which will be more of a 4-3-3, as Seedorf likes to attack in unison with Kaka at his side. I very much doubt that Fiorentina will be able to contain AC for 90 minutes, who will want to impress on their inagural home match. The "over" for this match looks so good it scares me, and as such, will only play it small. My concerns stems from Fiorentina having to play a very defensive 4-3-3, and this may limit their ability to create transition on offense, leaving Mutu and Pazzini waiting for midfield balls that just won't come.
AC MILAN -0.5 and -1 -125 (4 units)
AC MILAN over 2.5 +102 (2 units)

might add more on the Bologna over 2 and 2.5 if AC does not disappoint.

good luck,

MA

SERIE B - Sunday, September 9, 2007

So far:

Week 1: 2W - 3L - 1T (-9.06 units)
Week 2: 5W - 3L - 3T (+14.67 units)

Week 3:

Adding to the Rimini at ASCOLI game:
Rimini pk and +0.5 -105 (1.5 units)

Ravenna at BOLOGNA
Bologna -1 +106 (4 units)
Bologna over 2 and 2.5 -104 (3 units)

Grosseto at ALBINOLEFFE
ALBINOLEFFE -0.5 -103 (2.5 units)

Messina at MANTOVA
Messina pk and +0.5 +125 (2 units)

Chievo at TREVISO
TREVISO pk +108 (5 units)
TREVISO over 2 and 2.5 +108 (2 units)

For those looking for a few plays in the B league, I reccomend Rimini at pk and +0.5, Treviso at PK, and a cautious Bologna at -0.5 and -1 (even though, I have the feeling Bologna could win big.)

  • Rimini is just too well balanced. Overall, they are strong candidates for Serie A graduation. It's going to take luck, and a red card to slow down this freight train; or maybe a phantom penalty kick. Ascoli somwhat overated following the Piacenza home massacre; doubt they will have this succes against the best midfield in the B league.
  • Watched Treviso vs Lecce last week, and even though I was on Lecce for the play, was impressed by Treviso's second half; they attacked till end and showed great cohesion on defense. Overall, they have played good defense in the first two weeks, and are always tough at home.

Best of luck,

MA

Proceeding with the B card for Saturday, September 15, 2007 as follows:

Brescia at PISA
With last season late run in the B, and this year’s 2W-0L start, Brescia is now on 12W-2L-1T run. Until I see this unit falter, I’ll keep riding them, especially on the road where they should be consistently undervalued. Surprising start by Pisa with two wins in three games against less than mediocre teams (Bari / Frosinone / Cesena). I doubt they will have any success breaking down the visitor’s defense that is arguably one of the best in the B league. It’s a short week for Brescia as they will play Piacenza on Tuesday. This is the only factor, albeit an important one, from preventing me of making this a strong best bet.
BRESCIA PK -107 (5 units)

Ascoli at LECCE
It is certain that Ascoli’s strength is on the offensive front and not on defense. With that being said, Lecce possesses a truly talented tandem in Abbruscato and Tiribocchi, who will probably have much more space than they did against Treviso and Triestina. Home side will be one of the more improved sides this year, and IMO will be very tough to tame at home, the 2W-0L-1T start is no fluke, and I doubt the Serie C graduates will be able to contain them past the halfway mark.
LECCE –0.5 –118 (6 units)
Over 2 and 2.5 –104 (3.5 units)

Cesena at GROSSETO
No indicators point that Grosseto should be a legitimate favourite against Cesena. As a matter of fact I believe they might just turn out to be last year’s version of Crotone.
Cesena pk and +0.5 –105 (3 units)

Trestina at SPEZIA
The important thing here is that neither of these two has shown any cohesion on defense. I’ll make a stand that Triestina is the bigger candidate for Serie C relegation.
Over 2 and 2.5 +105 (2 units)

Treviso at RIMINI
If you are struggling on offense (Treviso), despite valiant efforts on defense, this is the wrong team you want to face on the road. Rimini has yet to show it true form, and believe an opponent like Treviso, much more trustable at home than on the road, is ideal prey for the home side eruption.
RIMINI –0.5 –116 (3 units)
OVER 2 –109 (3 units)

For those looking for one or two plays in the B league, consider Brescia at PK, and Lecce –0.5

For Serie A, on Saturday, September 15, 2007

AC Milan at SIENA
UNDER 2.5 –111 (2 units)

Empoli at LAZIO
Empoli +0.5 and +1 – 102 (2 units)

good luck,

MA

SERIE A - SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 16, 2007

Already posted this one earlier this week:
Sampdoria at NAPOLI
NAPOLI pk and -0.5 +112 (5.5 units)

adding NAPOLI pk and -0.5 +105 (2 units)

Livorno at GENOA
GENOA -0.5 -104 (2 units)

Atalanta at FIORENTINA
Atalanta +1 -115 (3.5 units)
Atalanta over 2.5 -110 (3 units)

Cagliari at PARMA
Cagliari pk and +0.5 -104 (5.5 units)

Roma at REGGINA
Roma -0.5 and -1 -121 (4 units)

For those looking for a play or two in Serie A, consider NAPOLI at pk and -0.5, Cagliari at pk and +0.5, and Roma at -0.5 and -1

  • Napoli needs to build in character, which starts by winning at home. Udinese (last week), and Samp (this week), bort have adequate midfield, but slow defensive corps. Napoli can and will attack from the first minute, and will have ample opportunities on the counter attack. I may sweat for this one, but home side should get it done.

  • Parma tough at home but has not shown squid in the first two games so far. Defense is totally disorganized and will have their hands full with a Cagliari side which is playing with confidence (deserved better faith last week against Juventus)

  • Roma: May seem like trap play here, with Champ play next week. However, I have already mentioned that their depth will take them in the sweet rounds of that tournament. Starting with two wins is a great opener and a momentum builder. Watching Milan barely escape with a draw should give this side added focus and the fever to walts to 3W.
Best of Luck,

MA

Great morning MA.

Fitz, parlay them at +.5. Wouldn't have helped with Juve today, but it did with Milan. Nothing sexy about a round robin of Milan, Liverpool, Chelsea, West Ham, Real, Valencia all at +.5, but it won/wins.

SERIE B - Piacenza at BRESCIA

Greetings,

Piacenza at BRESCIA - 18-September-2007

As mentioned in my Brescia vs Pisa selection, I'll continue to ride this group until they falter. After Rimini, this is one of the strongest teams in the B League. More important to me is the current state of affairs in the B, where Brescia is playing - without a doubt - the best football on both the offensive and defensive front.

Brescia -0.5 and -1 -122 (2 units)
OVER 2 AND 2.5 -104 (4 units)

Good luck,

MA
