It is ridiculous that Pete Rose is not allowed in baseball

The steroid players don't affect the game like a person who can change the game with a bet. See the NBA refs for further proof.

I agree with that, but I don't think Rose was ever throwing games or anything like that. He just liked to gamble. There's a difference between betting on games and fixing games.

The fact that he was and is a selfish jerk is irrelevent as to whether he should be in the Hall of Fame. What does matter is that he bet on his own games. I think the key element here is that he did this while MANAGING the Reds. There are many ways he could have manipulated outcomes. He could have bet on games when his worse pitcher was starting and the odds were favorable. Then he could have pulled that pitcher quickly after his start was official. As mentioned earlier, he could burn through his relievers to win and thereby perhaps alter the outcome of the next Reds game. He could rest key players on games he did not bet and use them when he did bet. The fact that he was stiffing bookies during that time makes one wonder if he only bet ON the Reds. The bottom line is that he did things that were explicitly forbidden and might have affected the integrity of the game. In my opinion there is no chance that this man will ever get in the HOF.

HOF should be based on what you did as a player not as a manager. You ban him from being a manager. Ty Cobb & others did things and are still in there. It's like Bart Giamatti & Beulah Ballbricker met back then, had a few beers and decided to ban him from the hall because of moral turpitude! Get real!

Independent of his wagering history, the jerk deserves to be the irrelevant 67-year-old confused wanderer he has become... :missingte

Maybe he never bet against the reds, but if he was betting on them, then the days when he did not wager on them was the same thing as betting against them.

What I'm saying is it had an impact on how he coached whether he bet against them or not. Unless he bet the same amount on them every time they played.

put him in the hof though cause he was a great player and he did it more with heart than with talent. He was my all time favorite as a kid, but I really don't care for him much after all the bullshit came out. sux

The non-believers need to understand this better.
