If I were to let Pete Rose coach, his payscale would be dependent on win totals...maybe I'll give him $12,000 for every game he wins.....hahaha

Charlie Hustle, was a treat watching him play what a competitor.

And of course loved action, you gotta keep him out just for stupidity if any thing els.

He knew he was doing wrong, why bet games when you can hustle up a poker game 24/7 just with your team mates alone.

Ponies in every MLB city and so forth.

No he shouldn't be allowed in,but should be able to get a job but that to is part of the ban.

Very well said BC. First he comes out and says he did not bet on baseball. He then says he did. He then says he did not bet on Reds games. He then says he did.

I will bet there is evidence that he bet AGAINST the Reds and Major League Baseball is keeping it very quiet.

Should be in for his accomplishments...if you get banned for gambling, then ban others for abuse and drug dealing....

He should have bet on totals not sides.

I have a really good autograph baseball from him. It's not worth a penny.

Pete Rose will not be the last person to gamble in baseball...I would venture to say that half of MLB teams have players that bet...

First let me say, Pete was my favorite player when I was growing up as a kid. I loved his hustle, tried to emulate him when I played.

With that being said, he should have never gambled the way he did. He could of done drugs, beat his wife but the worst of the worst is to gamble on his own game.

I've met Pete a few times in person and he was a prick. Have other people saying the same thing.....i wonder if that hurts him as well.

I agree with everything here. Met Rose at a card show back in the 80's. He really couldn't have been a bigger prick. Didn't know Charlie Hustle was off the field too.

I was at the MGM Grand in Vegas back in the 90's playing poker. Pete Rose was playing blackjack and the dealer made a mistake and paid Rose when he had actually lost the hand. I believe it was for about $10,000 which was a $20,000 difference. He grabbed the chips and headed for the cashiers cage. The pit boss caught up with him before he could cash out and Rose refused to return the $20,000 in chips to which he was not entitled. I do not know the ultimate deposition of this event, however, I do know that the man is a cheat, a liar and a convicted felon. That has never changed.

MLB has hinted that they have proof that not only did he bet on his team, but that he bet against his team.

When a sport loses credibility they have a problem.

If Vegas wont put out a line on it then its the same as wrestling.

The problem is where do you draw the line? Should violations that rise to the level of a permanent ban and HOF exclusion be mitigated by a player's performance?

The question to me has always been is this the baseball HOF or the good guy HOF, if its purely baseball then no question he should be in, of course we know he fucked up, but baseball alone the fact he is not in is a joke, and don't even get me started about some of the scumbags that are in the HOF, it is not a good guy HOF

its pretty simple he broke one of baseballs strict rules. If they dont enorce the rule, then there is no sense in having rules at all then. Doesnt matter what he did on the field, he broke the rule. On top of that he had many chances to confess about his gambling but he wouldnt do it.

at the time he was banned he was not specifically banned from the hof, infact that was part of the agreement he agreed to when they banned him from baseball

Nailed it.

Just because you guys have met some of these stars and they're massive pricks doesn't mean shit when you're talking about whether they should be in the HOF or not. If their numbers are good enough then they should be in, and Pete Rose has more than good enough numbers.

Sammy Sosa, Mark McGuire, Barry Bonds, and Pete Rose all deserve to be in the HOF.

And to whoever said it would have been better if he was doing drugs or beating his wife..wtf?! Doing drugs is not a huge deal so I'll agree with that, but beating his wife? That's fucking stupid. So you'd rather have a HOF full of wife beaters rather than gamblers? I think neither should stop someone from getting in because it has nothing to do with how good of a baseball player they are, but saying it's better that he would have beaten his wife is just ridiculous to me.

The steroid players don't affect the game like a person who can change the game with a bet. See the NBA refs for further proof.
