Personally I do not make the argument that Bill Bellichick is the best pro football coach to ever live. These things are impossible to settle and really a waste of time to argue about. A more viable discussion is what teams were the best but then you still have to break it down by eras. The Bears of the 40's known as the Monsters of The Midway were great in their day but could they compete with the Steel Curtain Steelers of the 70's or the Lombardi Packers of the 60's - I doubt it.

The 80's had the Niners, and the 90's the Cowboys.

There is little doubt who the team of the decade of the 2000's is as of today is there.

It's really nice to have Wil's voice of reason around here.

Sounds good. It's always difficult ro comapare different eras. Actually though I gave NE credit for their wins as probably even more impressive in this free agent era.

I love it, of course Bill Belichick is accused of being "classless". Classless is a word people very often reach for to insult someone when they know they have no hope of beating them, or their favorite team has no hope of beating them.

They're still scrapin him off my stucco.

Vince Lombadi had plenty of bad seasons in his early years with the Packers and then as a failure with the Redskins, although he was in ill health by then.

The first Pats Super Bowl against the Rams was the second biggest upset in SB history behind only SB III and Joe Namth's Jets beating the one loss 1969 Colts. That Pats team was full of unknown players but still beat the heavily favored and star studded Rams.

I don't think Lombardi had any losing seasons in GB.

Lombardi is the greatest coach ever hands down. Belicheck is a step down in class and coaching. This is not even debatable.

I think Belichickpeas is a dour, cerebral geek with the personality of a cardboard cutout. I don't think he's a coach that lacks class or isn't quite in the same echelon as the all-time greats. Also, a lot of coaches take liberties with the rules - why else are coaches so paranoid. Let him win another SB...and I agree, give the man his due.

Lombardi won 7 championships.

Wins don't matter, championships do.

Plus, when he coached I don't believe they had a 16 game season.

Nice one Pat..

To bad they didn't play Green Bay, Tampa Bay, Seattle, and Jacksonville. The Pats beat all the other division winners and serious potential playoff teams --(assuming they win at the Giants in two weeks). I know the Vikes and Saints are still alive but hey there are only 16 games in a season.

Saying Lombardi is better than Belichick because of championships is like saying Russell was better than Jordan because he had more rings. You got to factor in a lot more things than that. Lombardi never dealt with free agency, a salary cap, 16 game schedule, and many other things the game has eveolved into today. It's not even debateable that it is much harder to maintain success in today's NFL due to free agency and the salary cap. Thus, Belichick has a far harder job than Lombardi ever did. If Belichick goes 19-0 and captures his 4th super bowl in 7 years on top of it, than that will be as impressive or more impressive than anything Lombardi, Walsh, Shula, Landry, Parcells, or anyone else has EVER done. Period. The guy is a football genius that too many people don't want to admit because they think he is a jerk. Every fan in the NFL would give their left nut to have the guy as their coach.

Did you even read any of my posts or did you just copy exactly what I stated?

Another coach who I forgot about is Tom Landry. The man did not have a losing season for 20 years straight. That's pretty impressive.

Again, as far as Belichick goes he is not the best coach ever. There are many more coaches I would put ahead of him as of 2007. He is not finished yet so we have to wait.

Last time I looked the Pats haven't won anything yet this year. If he doesn't win the SB this year then who cares what they did this year.
I was around for all of Landry's 30 seasons and although He was a very good coach, I don't place him in my top 5. He had a career .601 winning record and won 2 Super bowls in 30 years as a coach. His first 5 seasons were losing seasons including a winless season his first year. He is another one of those coaches who hung around way too long before being dismissed as his teams were becoming awful. Very good coach but One of the greatest ? .... Not in my book.

The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he, who in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who would attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

Who here can answer why Belichick hates ESPN..

He doesn't hate ESPN ... he doesn't like interviews on camera that can be replayed over and over again.

Have you seen how many times ESPN replays things? If he had said anything but "We're getting ready for the Jets", I am sure ESPN would have replayed it 1,000 times a day ... that is what he avoids.

How many times have you seen Randy Johnson say "Do you know who I am?"

How many times have you heard/seen Clinton say, "I did not have sex with that woman?"

How many times have you heard Mora say "Playoffs????"

I have heard Curran say that if you have access to Belichick and try to interview him off camera and he trusts that you won't take the tape to a radio station, he's pretty candid.

Its ESPN who hates Belichick.
Belichick has been the same guy since he has been here.He has been the one who has been consistent. When he was 5-11 in 2000 he gave the same monotone answers.
Did you hear what that fuckin narccicst Mike Dikta said.He said the Dolphins win yesterday was more impressive than the Pats being 14-0.
Now I expect to hear this on this board, but this is overboard to for even the fuckheads at ESPN.
