belichick is the best coach in the nfl EVER. Period. He does not nedd to cheat. He will be considered the best ever when all said and done.He is a master at the 6 "p's". Prior Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance.

was he the best ever when he was with the Browns? No

Has he ever won without Brady? No

Can a coach be considered the greatest ever when he only managed to win with possibly the greatest QB ever and couldn't be .500 without him? NO

I remember when Belichick coached Cleveland. What happened there

Compared to Bill Walsh going 2 and 14 with the 1979 49ers. Then he drafted Joe Montana and went 6-10 in 1980. He also had Jerry Rice the best wide receiver to ever play the game.

Career wise Walsh was 102-63-1 and 10-4 in the playoffs with 3 Super Bowls.

Belicheck is 135-84 in regular season games - 13-3 in Playoffs with 3 Super Bowls..

Again Wil, Walsh actually changed how the game is played. List all the coaches under Walsh and then do the same for Belichick. I'm not talking about strictly won/loss. IMO, Walsh impacted the NFL.

If Belichick wins another SB you gotta give the man his due.

Tom Brady makes that team great. Belichick is a great coach but he would have 0 super bowl wins if Matt Cassell - or Matt Hasselbeck - was his QB

Well, dominant teams are always going to have great players. I know Pit won 4 SB's in 6 years in the 70's.

IMO there is a big difference though. Back then, teams kept their players for years. In todays NFL, free agency makes it difficult to keep players. You have to look at what NE has done in a free agency time in the NFL as pretty damn amazing.

Walsh was a disciple of the original offensive genius Sid Gillman, who did Belichick have - Bill Parcells..Big difference. No coach in the history of the game has ever won 3 super bowls in 4 years.

Regarding assistant coaches doing well -- First of all Belichick is still coaching so his legacy is not written, but take the all of sudden playoff contending Cleveland Browns coached by ex Pats coordinator Romeo Crennel. Also Notre Dame's Charlie Weiss who went 19-6 and two major bowls before having an off year in 2007, to name just two Belichick assistants.

Regarding players the Pats finally got a pro bowl wide out this year in Randy Moss, while Montana and Rice were perennial all pros for Bill Walsh..

Regarding another matter.

Photo only about an hour or so old, taken after today's Jets/Pats game. Doesn't look like there is all that much bad blood the press likes to make us all believe exists.

Here's the way I see it.

You have Vince Lombardi.

After that you can group together Chcuk Noll, Bill Walsh, Bill Belichick,
Bill Parcells, Tom Landy, etc. etc. etc.

Vince Lombadi had plenty of bad seasons in his early years with the Packers and then as a failure with the Redskins, although he was in ill health by then.

The first Pats Super Bowl against the Rams was the second biggest upset in SB history behind only SB III and Joe Namth's Jets beating the one loss 1969 Colts. That Pats team was full of unknown players but still beat the heavily favored and star studded Rams.

I believe Rice only won 2 SB's for Walsh. He came into the league in 85 and Walsh left in 89.

Thats two more than Moss has won with the Pats - the only receiver Belichick has ever had that can be mentioned in the same conversation as Rice.

Remember that Belichick was a HUGE part of the Giants SUper Bowls too. He was the defenseive coordinator and was a great coach there too that went to Super Bowls and won. Parcells might not have been considered as great without Belichick. The guy is one of the best ever. ANd not done yet.

Moss may be good but he's a level below Rice imo. Moss quit on the Raiders and takes off on plays. Rice is the best ever and no one comes close.

Dont look now but it's 14-13 Raiders in the 4th quarter vs. the mighty Colts. 10 minutes to play.

Assistant coach does not count. This topic only refers to accomplishments as a head coach.

Gotcha, so Belichick will have to settle for his 3 super bowls going on 4 with a dream undefeated season that is getting closer. Understood!

My point exactly - Walsh had two players one without a doubt (Rice) and the other (Montana) arguably, that were the best ever in league history at their key positions of WR and QB..

Brady is just now finally getting the recognition he deserves and Moss has been with the Pats for all of 14 games.

Another coach who I forgot about is Tom Landry. The man did not have a losing season for 20 years straight. That's pretty impressive.

Again, as far as Belichick goes he is not the best coach ever. There are many more coaches I would put ahead of him as of 2007. He is not finished yet so we have to wait.

Last time I looked the Pats haven't won anything yet this year. If he doesn't win the SB this year then who cares what they did this year.

Personally I do not make the argument that Bill Bellichick is the best pro football coach to ever live. These things are impossible to settle and really a waste of time to argue about. A more viable discussion is what teams were the best but then you still have to break it down by eras. The Bears of the 40's known as the Monsters of The Midway were great in their day but could they compete with the Steel Curtain Steelers of the 70's or the Lombardi Packers of the 60's - I doubt it.

The 80's had the Niners, and the 90's the Cowboys.

There is little doubt who the team of the decade of the 2000's is as of today is there.
