Thats what sticks a hair up my ass.

These assertions that you guys are there to "save the oppressed Iraqis."

puh-lease, don't go there.
Everyone knows you don't give-a-shít.
Ive said all along the safety of the US is the objective.Iraqis I could really care less about.

The war is about us Cappy.Finding proof of Saddams crimes against humanity is pure gravy. As is their opportunity to make their country a peaceful nation for the first time in a long time.

Isnt the argument regarding US military killing civilians by accident the same thing? Who cares right theyre only Iraqis.

Youre missing the point dude.

The same folks that complain about civilian casuaties and hold Bush personally responsible have that attitude that the humanitarian aspect of taking Saddam down is not worthy because theyre Iraqis.

Im personally content that they have a chance to flourish now......Im glad folks wont be pushed into the ground by bulldozers after receiving a couple of rounds in the head.....but that not whythe US is there.

Fair enough, that is the tough thing about the war in Iraq; the whole issue is so muddy that both sides can argue their points and be right and wrong at the same time. Most people argue in Black and white but aren’t looking at the grey reality in between.
What bothers me is US sells themselves as the Altruistic policemen, the protectors of the world but it is becoming more and more apparent that they are out for their own interests. Which is fine but don't try to sell it as altruism.

No, those are basically two different camps, not two different opinions coming from the same camp.

Plenty of us (I am in camp #1) think the civilian casualties as the result of this unnecessary war are horrifying. Others think that if the Iraqis couldn't take care of Saddam on their own, why should the West?

Of course there are some people who hold both opinions to one degree or another, but the vast majority of war opponents base it on one of the two, not both.

In fact, I could find plenty of quotes on this board from a couple of pro-war types who say 'fuck those ragheads' (maybe not in so many words) while simultaneously congratulating themselves for voting for the man who took down their oppressor and bringing them democracy and blah blah.

Speaking of Genocides where was the US during the genocide in Rwanda? where are they now while the genocide occurs in the Sudan? Where were they during the genocide in the former Yugoslovia?

Jesus KB - we go to Iraq to preserve national self interests and look at the dissent - I can imagine what would happen if an American died in another Somalia like mess - especially with Bush at the helm.

Mr Bblight: "we go to Iraq to preserve national self interests"

Curious: whose "self interest"???

I have heard that theory along with the "Mushroom Cloud" from Ms Rice .. "Greeted as Liberators" from Mr Cheney and other statements
