As a Clemson fan, I have to laugh at the idea the committee might set us up with Iowa rather than one of several Big 12 teams that are much better.

Do they watch the games? Hawkeyes better then Stanford, Ok St, Baylor, Lsu???? Absolutely not imo
Would gladly take Toledo plus 4.5 in a mediocre bowl over Farentz & co.

Iowa might not be "better" than Stanford, but Iowa did destroy Northwestern at NW, and Stanford lost to them.

These rankings are not designed to determine "who would beat who". I don't understand why this concept is so tough to grasp.

If Baylor or Okie State run out, they'll likely pass Iowa, as they'll have to beat some tough competition to stay unbeaten, but to date neither team has played much (outside of OK ST whopping TCU just last week).

It's certainly not a perfect system, but it's getting better. I mean a few years ago ND went unbeaten and played in the BCS Title game. Was ND the 2nd best team in college football that year? HELL NO, NOT EVEN CLOSE. But they did win all their games and got a shot at the title.

I do think Iowa would struggle and lose against a lot of the top 10-15 teams, but that doesn't mean they don't deserve their ranking, and certainly doesn't mean they couldn't beat some of them on any given Saturday.

i hope they limp in

and then smoke bama by 30 in the first round of the playoffs

Lol no way a team like Iowa rolls bama even in Iowa. Iowa's best attribute is what we just saw them shutdown LSU doing. I'd take bama and the points any time anywhere. Hell same for LSU against Iowa.

This is the big ten prejudice at work. Statistically they stand up to the challenge. They do everything that people drool over when its Alabama or LSU, which is play great defense and run the damn ball. If they run the table they will have gone undefeated and likely beaten the east champ. Thats deserving.

Laugh all you want, Ferentz knows how to coach the trenches (especially oline). As they say in SEC country, thats where the games are won. Clemson is more talented, but they wouldnt be an easy out.

I cant believe Im defending Iowa in this thread.

+1

I've made good money with Iowa this year for exactly this reason. They play defense and run the ball. I've seen many threads this year saying a team has no chance against another.....Florida/Ole Miss a prime example.....and Florida dusted them. A team that plays defense and runs the ball.

What a joke. Iowa would look like a high school team against Bama's d. LSU has the stud's Iowa only dreams of and they couldn't even slow them down. Bama could throw less than 12 times and Henry would hammer them between the tackles with drake around the corner. I can't believe you are making me talk up a team I even hate.

Being realistic, now a single non homer would pick Iowa or even take the points if it was less than 20.

Nebraska will knock Iowa off. It's set up so perfectly. Nebraska hasn't had a bye week yet, playing 11 straight games. Only other team I know that has such a shitty break is Ole Miss and you see what happened to them w/o rest down the stretch.

Bye week + 2 wks to prepare for that boring vanilla B10 offense, Senior Day + chance to qualify for a bowl game....recipe for disaster for Ferentz

I agree with you completely Short. Huskers could easily beat Iowa...... especially if Tom Osborne and Uncle Fester are on the officiating crew..... like the Sparty game.

unless the teams have played each other, not one person can say "they would beat..." because you dont know until they do play each other.

If Iowa runs the table and wins Big 10 Title game, they will be in the Top 4.
Hopefully, Alabama will lose another game, and the overrated SEC is absent from the Top 4.

Two things for sure 1) Life plays out 2) So will Iowa's schedule.......anyone that is Winning just needs to keep Winning.......I'm willing to wait rather than analyze polls between now and then. When its over....that is where the Debate begins.....

I'm not going to debate you on how strong the SEC is this year, but I can tell you one thing for fact.....There's about 12 other teams hoping and praying that Alabama slips up once more......but not because of what you suggest, but because they don't want to play them.

Ohio state will take a physical beating playing Michigan state and Michigan.... Not good rolling into a conference championship game... Iowa only has one physical game left against an unimpressive Minnesota team... Iowa could win based upon the fact that they might just be the healthiest big ten team come conference championship week lol...

ohio state already beat up.. injuries all year at WR, LB, and DB...they have a chance with JT at QB none w/o him.

Really don't care about Iowa, but if they run the table and win the Big 10 Title Game they will be in the Top 4.
The SEC is overrated every year.
Plenty of teams could beat Bama this year, Ole Miss being one of them.

Thank you for the Intelligent Commentary. I would enjoy seeing your "Plenty List". After Ole Miss won by 7 winning the Turnover battle 5-0, and scoring on a tipped pass bomb, I can just about bet you that if Ole Miss had a choice of playing Alabama and taking the Win vs. playing them again, they would take the 1-0. But Yes they did Win and that has nothing to do with what I stated.

By the way, the Definition of "Plenty" is an abundant amount.......

Someone explain why lsu dropped from 2nd to 9th. Al loses at home to an average team but is 2nd and Lsu loses on the road to the a so called #2 team but is now 9th. Al always gets the special treatment. I would have no problem with them being in the top 4 if they win rest of their games but to be #2 right now with a home loss doesn't add up . It took osu til the last week to get in after they leave lost early last yr.

Agreed. As a PAC12 follower and alum, i guarantee you Stanford would rather have played Oregon 3-4 weeks ago like Utah and Wazzu did instead of having to play them Saturday considering Adams is back and healthy and they are getting their WRs back in the fold.
