Lance Smith was dismissed from Wisconsin's football team Monday, a month after he was expelled from a first-offenders program for failing to meet its requirements.

The Washington football team's leading tackler E.J. Savannah is academically ineligible. He's not on the Huskies' roster Monday as they begin fall camp in Seattle, although he could be added later. The linebacker led the team with 111 tackles last season and was Washington's defensive player of the year.

Kentucky cornerback Paul Warford has been ruled ineligible for the 2008 season, costing the Wildcats a returning starter. Warford started 11 games for the Wildcats last season, with 41 tackles and two interceptions.
The Wildcats could also be without offensive guard Christian Johnson this season. The senior from Fort Campbell, Ky., has a back injury is also facing an eligibility issue.

And the hits keep rollin'. Looks like gaytors TE Ingram is done for the year. Torn ACL

Arizona State offensive tackle Richard Tuitu'u, who finished spring practices No. 1 on the depth chart, has quit the team.

Washington:
Willingham said that E.J. Savannah is academically ineligible but that there are also some other issues, saying that "when that is cured, we will at that time talk about his status with the team.

heard the Post-Gazette Pitt beat writer on the radio discussing week 1 of Pitt practices...not good news so far

1- all QB's, including starter Bill Stull, have looked awful
2- WR looks to be a real issue. Derek Kinder seems to be far behind where they thought he'd be in his ACL recovery and, at this point, does not look ready to play let alone start. With Mo Williams already suspended for the season WR may be an issue again as it was in 2007.
3- Jonathan Baldwin has been phenomenal so the frosh will likely see a lot of playing time as the 3rd WR but right now this team will have just 2 WR with any experience. Another WR, Porter, has been missing practice with a toe injury which has been nagging him for some time
4- so far so good with the new, more aggressive defense. insane depth at DLine

even though the Wisconsin running back corp is deep, that's a huge loss for them as I thought he was their best all-around back...thanks for the info...

Athens — Georgia got hit with its first major injury of the preseason on Saturday when sophomore strong safety Quintin Banks went down with a knee injury.
Banks, who was the No. 2 strong safety and third man in the four-man safety rotation, suffered a torn medial collateral ligament during an inside drill in Saturday morning's full-contact practice, the first of the preseason. By the afternoon — it was the first two-practice day this year — Banks was on crutches with a big black brace covering his left knee.
"He will probably have surgery on Tuesday to repair the MCL," coach Mark Richt said. "It'll be about a six-week recovery."
Georgia also lost safety Makiri Pugh for at least a week. The true freshman from Charlotte had his left ankle heavily wrapped as he followed Banks to the training room from the field early in the afternoon practice.
Safety was one position the Bulldogs could least afford injuries. Earlier this week defensive coordinator Willie Martinez was talking about the importance of having at least four solid safeties and that he had only three, including Banks.

Georgia:

Sophomore left tackle Trinton Sturdivant will miss the rest of the year after tearing the ACL, MCL and PCL in his left knee during Monday's scrimmage at Sanford Stadium, a source with knowledge of the situation confirmed Tuesday morning to UGASports.

Just Heard

ESPN said Navy QB Enhada, out for something, missed the whole thing. It will be on again today I'm sure.

Navy quarterback Kaipo-Noa Kaheaku-Enhada will be out indefinitely with a hamstring injury sustained in last Saturday's scrimmage. Kaheaku-Enhada was recently named a candidate for the Davey O'Brian Award, given to the nation's top quarterback.
In Kaheaku-Enhada's absence, senior Jarod Bryant will move into the No. 1 quarterback spot. Bryant had moved from quarterback to slot back and was elevated to the No. 1 slot back after the first week of preseason camp.

Pitt DE, Doug Fulmer, will miss the entire 2008 season as an MRI showed a knee ligament tear. He was expected to possibly start at left DE as he was up against Jabaal Sheard in training camp, though Sheard was at top of depth chart when injury occurred.

If Kaipo can't play, that will be a major blow to this team. I'm curious as to how many games he will miss if any . . . .

I actually think the Bryant kid is pretty good...obviously it will hurt not having them on the field at the same time (without Bryant being at the slot back position), but Bryant's passing skills are definitely better and he might not quite be the runner Kaipo is but he's close...

Florida:

Gators sophomore offensive lineman Jim Barrie and freshman linebacker Brendan Beal are the fourth and fifth players to tear their ACLs. Beal suffered his injury during Monday's practice and Barrie was injured Saturday.
"Five ACLs, that's a tough deal," Florida coach Urban Meyer said after announcing the latest injuries following Tuesday's morning practice.
Tight end Cornelius Ingram, who turned down the NFL to return for his senior season, tore his left ACL during Florida's second day of practice last week. Redshirt junior Dorian Munroe, a projected starter at safety, and senior safety John Curtis, a backup, tore ACLs in July.

Sirod Williams was a starter so we will def. miss him this year. D-line is our deepest position and the back up has exerience from last year (played as a freshman) but not good news unless your Chase Daniels...

Phil Steele had Williams penciled in as a backup...But I don't think it makes a difference..He'll be missed since he was the only player with any significant playing time at the position..According to the roster the other players vying for the DT are a redshirt freshman and a converted LB...Tough loss. Somebody will probably have to be moved over from another line position, if it hasn't already been done.
