I don't mind having a daily thing. But we have one thing this year going against us. WE DON'T HAVE JEFF H.. Jeff H was there everynight to update the results as soon as the games were over. I could NOT do this.. NO WAY. It's too time consuming for me. If any of you want to volunteer to do this, then by all means, lets do it. Till then, we don't have an official scorer, and I ain't sitting there like a loser doing this every night..

Yes, I might be a loser, but I ain't that big a loser..

So if you guys want to have a daily contest, I need a volunteer to split the duties with me. If I don't have a volunteer, then Wed and Sat sounds good to me.

How about the same format as last year?

Except,

I still want to do a self scoring contest. That is easy and worked fine for NBA last season. Each player would be required to post their record whenever they posted plays.

I will oversee all disputes that may arise. I am still looking for a sponsor.

When you have over 200 people in a contest, you may run into a few problems with a self scoring method.

Just my .02 cents worth.

Hmm look in the mirror as you must have no life if you need to tell someone that.

1000%.. Out of 200 people, do you think everyone is going to update their scores everyday? Some posters don't even check in to rx on a regular basis. Some only come in here once a week only. And if someone doesn't update their score for 4 days, we will all lose track as to what his real score is, and we'll have to search back 4 days prior to see how he did. We will go crazy doing it this way..

My only solution is 2 things..Wed and Sat only.. And i can score it all the time. OR

And this is a much better idea.

We hire somone to do this for the whole 6 month season for 1,000 dollars to organize the contest and grade the games and put up the lines for the next day. That would be a good deal for the rx, as it's only going to cost them about 165 dollars a month. I know this would be a cheap price for kenny to pay, and some kid who needs the cash and is in school, will jump on this deal. For 1 dime a year, I know we will have a list of volunteers. And 1 dime is not bad for some student.. I know if I was 17 trying to make ends meet, i would jump on this deal in a flash.. For 1 hr a day, that's not bad.

So how about that, General..

Funny how you'd take that personally EVG. Did I mention you specifically?

Why don't we just call you the winner right now and give you the prize money and the rest of us can play for pride.

Is it fair for a guy picking at 50% to win the contest over a guy who wins at 60% just because of the volume of his bets? Wouldn't it be more fair for everyone to have the same number of plays? Why are you so against letting more guys participate on a less frequent basis? Is it not better to have 300 guys picking exactly 10 games a week than 100 picking 5 a night?

And what's with this 100 posts max to be eligible nonsense? Some of you guys think you own this place because you've been around longer. That's crazy. Isn't the point of these contests to attract more guys to the Rx?

I suggested two separate contests but you still whine.

Anyone can get hot over a small sample of plays & what does that exactly prove? The answer is nothing.

Jam we had a nice contest that for the most part worked well last year & I don't see why it should be drastically changed. Where you around for the contest last year? For the most part it ran smooth. I only suggested tweaking a rule or two from the format of last year.

This 2 day a week thing is ridiculous as lets say you like some games on a Thur or Sun but not many or any at all on Wed & Sat, you have to pass up games you liked just because of how it is setup, how ridiculous is that?

I didn't say anything about giving me the prize etc, that trash talking hasn't begun yet lol. I personally would install Vegasguy39 as the favorite since he did win it all last year.

I think the 100 post rule was suggested only because the RX has a tendency to attract ghost posters & you know some won't be beneath cheating. I don't think he was pointing you out specifically.

Since a contest about how often Todd Bertuzzi rag dolls and bitch slaps your team's players is probably out of the question, I recommend we have a minimum of 10 plays and a maximum of 20 a week. That should put an end to the bickering.

From what I've read here, this might not be too popular, but I'd like to see a contest like the CROWN THE RX Football Championship Contest. Hold it four times over the season... 128 guys go head to head in brackets, picking 10 games every Saturday.
Any interest?

There is a major difference between NFL and NHL.

As EGD stated, last year's contest was a success, with a couple of minor adjustments.

A player should have the option of selecting games each and every day. This is not like the NFL where each team plays once a week.

The reason that i don't like the 2 day a week system is because you have a number of instances where teams could be in a 3rd game in a 4 night situation. Your choices for picking will be limited.

This is supposed to be a capping contest and not a crapshoot.

I did find a willing sponsor but grading presents a problem. I cannot pay anyone to track and The RX does not want to go down that road.

If we go Sick Gamblers route, Is 2 days a week enough?

Let me answer that question on behalf of EVG. No. lol. 2 days isn't enough. I accept the argument that there are games on other days that you prefer to bet (although the 3rd game in 4 nights lock is a myth, and books aren't that clueless with hockey anymore).
But let's keep it to 15-20 games a week max if sick gambler is cool with grading that many. Does anyone here (be honest) actually play that many games a week with real money? You're better off waiting to fade Bobby Bryde's playoff series predictions.

I keep hearing you boys saying that last year went smoothe. Well,of course it did,and that is only because we had someone here named JeffH.. Of course I'd rather play this thing everyday. But we have to be realistic about it. Who is going to sit there everyday for 1 or 2 hrs, 7 days a week and grade this headache.

If we have a full time scorer who wants to volunteer 7 days a week, fine. If kenny wants to hire someone full time for 1 dime for the whole 6 month season, great.. Then we can do this 7 days a week.

But until then, we cannot do this 7 days a week.. It's just impossible, unless Jeffh comes back or someone else wants to take over the helm, it can't be done.

But as for the Wed and Sat, this is more realistic. As much as we hate this, it's the only way for now we can do this.. I will do all the work here.. I will put up the lines early, and grade the games. It will be my pleasure to do this, and it will be a great hockey season for all of us.

I do want a sponsor and General, hurry up and get one fast. It's almost time to drop the puck. I don't care for a big prize. Hell, I really don't care if there is NO prize at all, I swear. I just want to do this for ONLY bragging rights. Money is the least important thing here.. And I'm sure a lot of others agree with me, that the money aspect is the least important. It's all for pride..

But still, Hurry up general and get us a sponsor..Or we won't have any participants. We want to get us at least 100 for this season, and we will need time to achieve this, so hurry..

Does anyone know any programming language or something. Maybe we could do this automaticly. Like picking from a drop down menu and everything being updated at once after the end of the game. Just like online bookies do...

Sounds good General. Perhaps we could also have a weekly maximum of 15 for the guys who can't play 7 days a week. Otherwise, it's not an even playing field.
