This is my opinion and/or at least a possibility as I see it:
I think that on a conscious or perhaps even unconscious level Trump is thinking that if he compiles a big enough lead in the Republican
polling data for the nomination, that somehow that is going to intimidate Jack Smith and others who have compiled damning
evidence against him in the various investigations into not releasing it and/or indicting him because of the fear of what will happen to
the country and even possibly to themselves if they actually pursue everything to its conclusion!!
Along the same lines, he thinks that the folks cited above are going to be intimidated that if he is indicted and convicted, that
he(Trump) has such power over enough people that he can simply snap his fingers and cause almost unimaginable violence,
looting and destruction across the entire country.
In short in Trump's mind if no one else's he believes that there is a direct correlation between his ability to rile up his base of support
and lead in the polls and the unwillingness of Jack Smith et al to really pursue Trump and charge and indict him!!
Obviously, this is pure conjecture on my part.
On the other hand, imo just about all of us at some time in our lives have had irrational thoughts to try to ward off negative
ones about ourselves or others, which would have very negative consequences and ramifications if they came ultimately
came true!!
For those few who may be unaware of what term for this is, it is called "defense mechanism."
