Schiff Introduces Bill to Prevent misuse of Military in Domestic Law Enforcement

Today, Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Burbank) introduced legislation to amend and strengthen the Posse Comitatus Act to prevent the U.S. military from being used inappropriately in domestic law enforcement functions.

This legislation, known as the Strengthening the Posse Comitatus Act of 2020, comes after the Trump Administration pre-positioned active duty military units from the U.S. Army to respond to national protests against police brutality in the United States and considered deploying them in major U.S. cities. Active duty military or federalized National Guard troops were ultimately never deployed.

Scathing letter from health department insiders says N.J.'s pandemic failures led to ‘preventable deaths'

New Jersey’s response to the coronavirus inside nursing homes was “an unmitigated failure” that led to “preventable deaths,” a group of anonymous state health department employees charged in a letter to lawmakers Monday. Moreover, Gov. Phil Murphy’s administration “is making things up as they proceed” in order to reopen the economy, the writers also allege.

The letter, sent to state Senate President Stephen Sweeney, D-Gloucester, and Senate Minority Leader Tom Kean Jr., R-Union and obtained by NJ Advance Media, also calls for the resignation of state Health Commissioner Judith Persichilli and an investigation into other top administration officials who they said have mishandled the state’s response.

The letter lays out a searing indictment of the state’s handling of the public health crisis, from its lack of transparency on how decisions are being made in reopening the economy, to the failure to devote enough testing and personal protective equipment to protect the most vulnerable — the elderly in long-term care facilities.

The writers allege that since there was not enough personal protective equipment staffers were pressured to relax minimum standards to allow testing to proceed in nursing homes, psychiatric hospitals, centers for the developmentally disabled, and prisons.

This combination of a lack of action and “a willful desire to focus only on where most media attention was afforded, such as public testing and hospitals” led to unnecessary deaths, the writers allege.
“In other words, we believe the leadership failures of Commissioner Persichilli led to preventable deaths,” the letter said.

The group also questioned whether the administration in an effort to reopen the economy was “making things up as they proceed, or making decisions and justifying them on the back end. That is both dangerous and the worst type of cynical politics — right smack in the middle of the worst pandemic in modern history.”

Robbie Williams has bizarrely suggested that the Pizzagate conspiracy theory hasn’t been properly debunked.

The singer was interviewed by journalist Anna Brees, with a trailer for the second part seemingly showing the moment in which Williams discusses the conspiracy theory – which falsely alleged that Democrat Party officials and US restaurants were involved in a human trafficking and child sex ring.

It was widely debunked in the run-up to the 2016 Presidential Election, but Williams appears to suggest that the theory has not been properly investigated.

“Look, there might be a personally reasonable explanation for that language, who knows. The fact that we don’t know means that nothing has been debunked. Yes, there was no basement in the particular pizza place,” he says in the clip.

“That’s not the debunking that I want, as a civilian, a human that’s going ‘hey, this bit, this bit’s really fucking weird, what is that bit’.

“Nobody’s been asked, nobody’s said and there’s been no answers. But the overarching reporting on this story is debunked fake news. It’s not. The right questions haven’t been asked to the right people in the right places.
