That is goddamned AWFUL. Please, let the school know. If he looks at Playboy magazines or drinks or uses foul language during class....call the school. Look, there are things that I believe we have the right and responsiblity to handle and enjoy....but not in certain situations. DAMN. Sex is a good thing. Sex on a bus is not. Good post Tulsa..always have respected your posts and what you say is true..very true. I plan on meeting with him on Monday and hopefully he will think twice about leting his class know what he does with his private life.
With my daughter she knows I gamble and has for a while so its no big deal to her but what about the other kids that don't have someone to that they can talk to about gambling. I'm not saying that I want to protect the kids in her class but Gambling by a teacher should not involve a show and tell...jmo

What about approaching the teacher and let him know about the big mistake, God knows what was going on through his mind that didn't make him realized what he was doing.
I suggest this since you are part of this gambling world and some how I guess you can understand his behavior.

This is a difficult case but I think you are handling it in the proper way Max. Let me reiterate what someone else said about discussing what you're doing and why you're doing it first with your daughter, before you meet with the teacher.

i use to have a teacher who would trade stocks in class, and let the whole class know about it .........to me this is no different..........but if it bothered me i would talk to him myself or write a letter of my concerns to him...............going to school admin makes you a back stabbing SOB and possibly a bit of a hypocrit..............saying that he is not a good role model , when you her biggest male role model is at home openly do the samething, but I do understand your concern as school is probably not the place thus if your concerned deal with him direct dont back stab the guy, this is not something to be fired for he probably is just trying to look cool in front of the kids

Actually, I agree with some of the others on here and I was hasty with the 'call the school.' I believe you should talk to the teacher. That is true. You mentioned that was your plan...it is the right thing to do and I am sure that the fellow will understand.

Also, I'm sick of you guys saying "how hypocritical of you..." to maxdemo. There are things my son sees me do that I hope his teachers do not do in the classroom: 1.) Drink 2.) smoke cigars on occassion 3.) fish 4.) watch NBA finals...

There is a time and a place for many activities. Some of the responses in this thread make me wonder what your expectations are for proper behavior in the classroom. I am overjoyed that those with questionable responses probably have no chance of ever instructing our youth. tulsa

Maybe I should have mentioned this at the start:

I have never been married. I had a daughter at the age of 19 and was able to get joint custody of her based on the "Common Law" marriage law here in the state of Texas. She stays w/ me 2 nights a week and the rest w/ her Mom.

The reason she is in Summer school is because she wants to graduate at the end of the Fall term so she is enrolled in both Summer sessions to accelerate her graduation. She has a 3.60 GPA and will be enrolling at Baylor, Texas or LSU. She is a very bright kid and we have a very open communication channel between the both of us.

Gambing in the Classroom

max,

one, i feel badly for you for having be put in this situation. two, glad you did not 'knee jerk reaction' instantly, opting to think it thru and get others opinions. three, you know your daughter better than anyone in here and as her father need to be certain this life style does not seem glamourous. four, as others have stated, go talk with (not to/at) the teacher and "kindly" ask him/her not to do that in front of your child - if he admits to it. five, congrats on getting her school ready for next year ~ a 3.6 is nothing to sneeze at and it shows she has a brian and more importantly uses it.

bottom line, do what you need to do to get the job done.

I would approach the teacher and let him know I don't think it's cool that he is making bets while he is supposed to be helping the kids in his class. Use the fact that you both gamble as a common ground. Suggest that he step outside or wait until the end of period to make the bet. This way you are avoiding the administration and giving him the chance to apologize or at least change how he does things because other parents wouldn't be so cool and go directly to the administration bringing a lot of Shit on to him.

Max, the teacher should have stepped out of the room if he had a bet to make, but everyone makes mistakes. It kills me how everyone wants to critque every move a teacher makes and then pay them shit. I have a friend who teaches and doesn't make anything and then every thing he does is watched. Put yourself in the teachers shoes, you are at work and have a bet going off you want to get in WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO. Don't call and complain about this and lost the guy his job. Hell I am sure he doesn't want to be there in the summer no more than the kids but he is. If your daughter doesn't understand about gambling then the only person that needs to be looked at you will see in the mirror.
