If you have a Wireless LAN for your laptop.. How do you like it

Will a garage door opener and/or microwave cause signal disruption?

The best place for my network/router is in close proxmity to a microwave, garage door opener, and 2.4 ghz phone (which I can easily replace since it is at least 6 years old). I've found that my signal is unreliable when near all these devices.

Microwave or garage should not bother your router. The phone will.

On another note, I have a wireless set-up with no laptop and it is very nice. My set-up is suboptimal yet I still get performance as good as my hardwired set-up.

I have the Dlink mentioned earlier in the thread with encryption on. The biggest problem I have is the location of the router. I found that the best place (my kitchen) for it in terms of signal strength for my home and yard is also the worst place for it since the devices (phone, garage door opener, microwave) cause signal disruption. <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

Dante, be warned that if you are interested in spending a long time away from an outlet (battery life) that you will do much better with a Pentium-M chip than the standard Pentium 4.

Not that this ones' battery life will suck, but we are talking maybe 2:30 with this and 4:45 with a Pentium-M.
