MLK is up there with the greatest guys in the countrys history. I give big props to him for changing a countrys mindset, which in that enviroment was considered impossible.

No, I would not say you are racist because of your remarks.

However, I may say that you are insensitive and ignorant to a certain degree because you really aren't trying to understand what this man symbolizes to the african american population. Instead of taking the easy way out and just getting annoyed by it, put some thought into it, or talk to a black person and see what they have to say about it, in other words step out of the normal comfort zone for a day and appreciate what this man and this day stand for.

Im not identified as always being a colorblind person here, but I have no problem with and agree that MLK deserves a holiday in his honor.

King didnt do it alone. In fact, if not for alot of white folks getting involved alot of what changed would have remained.

Actually did his speech in front of my elementary school about 25 years ago. Our entire history study that year was 100% devoted to various civil rights/ "black" history topics...id say a bit over the top that was.

Black history has had enough time in the sun and it now needs to be talked about as American history...since thats what it is anyhow.

I suppose alot of the going overboard about "black history" is to compensate for past wrongdoings. However, at some point its overcompensation.

The whole idea of having a black history month just keeps the divisions in tact.

:drink:

To answer the thread question. Yes, alot of people would call you a racist for such comments.

Agreed....:103631605 was needed back in the 70's & even 80's but now I think we have enough sense to truly recognize black americans in history just as much as the white americans , as well as devote equal time to each

Shit i'd say having a month kinda disrespect black americans, cause you're basically saying lets only spend one month talking about them

i guess he did a lot for black folks but i have no emotional feeling about him,,does that make me racist? i know blacks would consider me racist but what about white folks? i mean i would never think of a black person who had no use for george washington as a racist,,,please dont say im full of hate and all that bs,,i was raised around more black folks than white and i loved them dearly.

Why do you have no use for him? Do you not like what he advocated, what he stood for? Do you not think blacks should have been given equal rights? Or was he just overrated in that regard? Just curious.

Has anyone else ever a black person complain about black history month being in February...the shortest month.

Put it to rest already.

Seems that ESPN goes over the top about it more than any other channel.

lol...yeah this black teacher I had in freshman year of high school...naturally in public school. She was trying to tell us that it was wrong to have bhm in feb. My parents reaccessed their decision and sent me to a private school after that semester, and I was pissed because the work load was far greater.

No, it makes you ignorant. Try reading some books. MLK affected more than just blacks, he shaped the entire country.

*sigh* Yeah I know what you mean about this. Dr Carter G Woodson pushed to get Feb for BHM because of Lincoln and Frederick Douglass. You wont see me complaining about this at all.

I agree with the above poster. MLK was important to more people than just in the racial equality arena. He was also trying to get people equal between the classes and had a big influence in the unions at that time. I cant understand why you would be "sick" of him. Maybe you can explain that.

Pig you sound like an ignorant asshole to be honest...

He doesn't deserve a day? Are you shitting me....

You are a gambler I would guess being on this site right? Well you think we would have african-american athletes as prevelant today if it wasn't for a guy like MLK... that is just a small thing and a pointless thing, IMO, that MLK affected... He made it ok to be Black and to be somebody and to have dreams... I think you really don't understand that MLK wasn't about making blacks equal but about making everyone equal... he just happened to be an African American in the Cival Rights movement.,.. he is an American hero and I am White... And to argue that Columbus did more is just dumb... HE DIDNT EVEN discover the USA... he never stepped foot on the USA's soil he just discovered new land... He didn't impact this country as we see it today at all!!! He did nothing to affect the life we live today but MLK did...

And I am white and went to a Public school and to go to school in a diverse community is the best thing you could ever ask for... because I am from a very wealthy white neighborhood but we share our High school with an upperclass- middle class diverse neighborhood so when we went to high school it was a good thing because I learned a lot and wasn't a close minded asshole... I also went to a top 50 public high school in the country and black history month alwasy had some of the coolest performances of the year...

Also we have black history month because every fucking month is White history month guys haha... lets be real

Actually, if people read some quotes from Abe Lincoln, I doubt they would equate him much with MLK or civil rights movement.

Lincoln didnt think black and white races could coexist in this society, he didnt believe blacks were equal, and he thought it was best at that time to send black slaves and free-black Americans back to Africa.

Dont recall mentioning being sick of MLK...Ill assume that part of your post was intended for mrhognuts since he began this thread.

I think enough time has passed that it no longer needs to be named black history, since I dont think it at all helps race relations.

Actually I would argue Branch Rickey (a white man that got Jackie Robinson signed) probably deserves as much credit as anyone for helping black athletes.

Don Haskins (another white man texas western/UTEP coach) also did alot for black basketball players.

Bear Bryant (another white man) did alot for black football players. Not sure how sincere the bear was or maybe he just saw writing on the wall and was tired of seeing bama kids going north and west.

Red Auerbach (another white man) did alot for blacks in nba.

Also, the owners of these teams, GM, AD (and Ill assume they were all white men) were involved and probably dont get enough credit.

Most people didnt even know who MLK was when Rickey got Robinson signed.

No problem IM8
