If you risk 115.15 to win 101.01, and lose, you will be charged an additional 1.01.
Hold that thought. The line was -114. I already added 1.01 (the cost of commission) to base amount.

I haven't used the formulas much since March 2009 when MB changed their structure, but sometimes I forget that the commission is for all bets, not just "net-win" bets. That's why I almost always make offers only so I don't think much about the cost. I did not have the formulas in my spreadsheet anymore so I had to do this typing from my mind.

Okay, whether my play wins or loses, I already expect to lose $1.01 because 1% of $101.01 is $1.01.

I don't add another $1.01, no no.

You talk about the "other player", okay, I understand your confusion. If he somehow offered exactly $115.15 (for me to match), he wants the +114 for the other side, right?

So his line is +114; risking $101.01 to win $115.15.

He gets .2% of the commission cost ($101.01 x 0.002 = $0.20). He gets the 20 cents that came from my $1.01. MB keeps the other 81 cents, that's how they keep the business going with the other 80% part of commission.

You follow?

I still disagree !

Say I offer the fav at -114 ( so I get the dog +114)

101.01 @+114 would pay 115.15.

I will earn 20 cents on this win or lose, cannot be charged any fee.

say my balance is 101.01, it will become .20 or 216.36

Calvin takes my offer

he puts up 115.15 to win my last 101.01

if he wins he gets $100, I get back .20, MB made .81

If I win , I get Cal's entire 115.15,plus another .20 from MB

MB needs their .81

Cal would get his account debited by 116.16 when takes my offer. If he only had 115.15 in his account, he couldn't entirely fill my offer. If he loses, he lost 116.16

accept a small test offer on something Cal, you'll see your balance go down by more than your bet, to cover this MB fee.

I noticed people are not sure how to factor into MB's commission:

For all sports other than MLB:

-1.0% to accept existing offers
+0.2% for making offers that are matched

If you want to know the actual juice of accepting existing offers, then do this:

for favorites, formula is: {fav line}/.99
example for -114: 114/.99 = 115.15 = -115.15 juice

for underdogs, formula is: {dog line}*.99
example for +118: 118*.99 = 116.82 = +116.82 juice

That's how I do it.

Same idea, if you want to bet a game to win exactly $100 *AFTER* commission:

If it's on -125, betting $125 to win $100, but instead, you do 125/.99 to get 126.26.

That means you should bet $126.26 to win $101.26 then the $1.26 commission would make it $100.00.

In any case, I do add 2 cents to juice as a guide so Doug has that right... of course, it becomes no good approaching -180s and higher.

Notice your lines are not off by about two cents, yet you agree two cents is about the correct fast adjustment !

my head is spinning...

surely there is a simple mathematical equation for this... THAT IS CORRECT

where is D2bets?

P.S: I understand we can simply use the 2 point rule for games closer to a pk... but it still bugs me not being able to see the formula.

for favorites, formula is: {fav line} +negative 1/99
example for -114: -115/99 = -116.16 juice

for underdogs, formula is: {dog line) -1/101
example for +118: 117/101= +115.84 juice

For the quick guide, can you just use 2% rather than a straight 2 pts? Then a -150 line would be -153 and +200 would be +196. I think that allows a quick line comparison in your head on larger odds. Is that right?

Doug, I'm not sure your math is right.

If a game is -105 at matchbook, say you bet $105.

If you lose, you lose $105.
If you win, you win $99. ($100-1%)

Thus 105 to win $99. That's equivalent to essentially -106.

If you bet a -330 to win $100. You bet $330. If you lose, you lose $330. If you win, you win $99. Thus its $330 to win 99. You will win 33% of the time or whatever so once again, Matchbook is taking about 1%. I'd call it -333.

Maybe my math is off, but that's what I'm getting though I did it quickly.

Basically add 1% to the odds on matchbook and you've got it... -110 becomes -111.1, -103 is about -104.3, -200 is about -202.

Sean, you'd lose $106.

if you accept

the fee is on the guy accepting, win or lose.

Say a football game is -3 -104 at MB

Say you bet to win 100..........104-100

They charge 1.0% commission for this on the lowest figure(100).....WIN OR LOSE.

Thus, your risking 105 to win 99............

In baseball it is 0.6

Basically, if you bet a baseball game at Matchy, add 1.2 to what your laying for bases...........and 2.0 on foots.

If you lay -103 in bases, it really is like laying 104.2 .................thus if you find -104 someplace else your better off taking that.

i cant wrap my head around why "105". of course I understand the 99 is due to the commission, but why "105".

im not very sharp at mathematical formulas.

Doug, Fish,

can one of you guys post at SBR asking ganchrow to outline the simplest formula for us?

You are paying $1 for making this trade...win or lose

100 becomes 99

104 becomes 105

the one I posted will work.

Ganchy doesn't tend to simple explanations, you'd be more confused :):)@):)
