I had the same thing in High School - the cough lasted almost 6 months maybe - I forget what the doctor diagnosed me with, but the meds eventually worked. Ever since then - I have lost my true laugh. I can still laugh, but it is not the same as before

holy shit. Sorry to hear NP. Stay strong and beat this thing.

Are/were you a smoker?

I was a smoker, but smoking has nothing to do with lymphoma. My doctor is very optimistic that I will beat this, and I actually feel real good. I have been lucky with the aftereffects of chemo, I havent had any nausea, just sleep alot. I am on round 2 of 6, so it will be a long summer, but after that I get to watch my kids grow, so it will all work out.

But back to you, if the cough doesnt go away, and you have lost some weight, go get a chest xray just to make sure.

I'm glad to hear that NP. I have heard horror stories of chemo. One of my friends had to go on soft foods the entire time he was on chemo. Said he was miserable.

My nagging cough I admit is getting better....today (I am still up at 2:30am getting some work done) i say i coughed about 4-5 times. Not even noticeable if not for the fact I had it for a month.

If i don't see it go away in a few weeks I will be sure to have it looked at. Thanks for the input. scary shit

Go back to the doctor and ask/demand for a chest xray. I had the same exact thing happen to me earlier this year, everything cleared up but the cough. I am now in the hospital for my second round of chemo because it ended up being lymphoma. Go get an xray to make sure its nothing more than a nagging cough.

Now this scares me because i have a dry cough that comes and goes. My lymph nodes in the neck also hurt at least once or twice a year for 2 weeks. The doctor just gave me antibiotics and brushed it off as a virus going around.

anyone else find their doctors brush off almost everything? Sometimes its like they dont even pay attention to what youre saying.

I went to the doctor 3 times before finally getting my chest xray, although its not entirely the drs fault, sometimes insurance fights xrays.

I have the same thing going right now. It could be heart problems. I get a tickle in my throat and then a dry cough.
Same here, and yes it is a heart problem. Mine at least is. I have an irregular heart beat. My heart does not pump enough blood through my heart and body, therefore my lungs feel as if there is excess fluid, causing me to cough, which is the body's natural reaction to fluid in the lungs. When was your last EKG?

My last EKg was after a stress test. Im young and had a blocked artery, the widow maker. Had stent placed. The doctor told me all follow ups were fine. The cough is preceded by a tickle in my throat. nobody in my family suffers from heart problems strangely enough

My ekg last year was irregular and I had to do a stress test in order to get cleared for uppp surgery.

You think the irregular heart has something to do with it

Good luck and watch yourself. Glad to hear you're doing better. I'm meeting with a specialist on July 7th. Looks like I'll be getting a pacemaker. Actually, I can't wait. I've been feeling like crap for a year now.

As far as the Cough.... Had this earlier in the year, lasted way over a month, more like 2 months.

I'll go with what the Guesser said, word for word. Because that's how it went down, and I got better after the 2nd, Stronger antibiotic.
It wasn't the Doctors fault, because I didn't go in and See him. Just told him over the phone how I was feeling and even though he said to come in, I thought it was just another Cold coming on.
But exactly what the Guesser went through is what I went through. Don't wait to go back to the Doctor... Go Now !

The Guesser
Sounds like you have bronchitis, and it's possible the 1st antibiotic wasn't strong enough, or you're immune to it. You might have to try a different antibiotic. I assume the steroid was Prednisone? I'm prone to Bronchitis, and heavy doses of Prednisone for a week usually knocks it out of me.

Everything you described was me 1 year ago. I picked up some virus that attacked my heart. I coughed for 8 months until the meds slowed it to just an occasional cough here and there.

Were just lucky they caught our problems on time right plastered? Nothing worse than feeling like youre dying? Are you on betablockers? Let me ask you, do you ever get a cold feeling in your legs? When doc was brushing that off as me being paranoid.

No, just blood thinners, and no, no problems with my legs. Their main concern for me right now is stroke prevention. I had a mini 2 years ago.

Man that sucks. Hope the pacemaker takes care of the situation. You dont realize how scary heart problems are until you get it.

good luck and stay positive....also don't underestimate alternatives to supplement your chemo....my buddy who beat non-Hodgkins Lymphoma (sp) used acupuncture and a lot of diet modifications when he was really weak and while it was close for a while, he made it and is doing great now....he ate a lot of eggs if i recall (supposed to be very digestible form of protein)....be well bud

Thanks Danny, ive been trying to have as much protein as possible. My doctor is great, he has been optimistic from the start so I have no choice but to be positive. I also have Non Hodgkins Lymphoma, which is very treatable/beatable. I feel better today than I did before my first round of chemo and all my numbers that have come back are telling my doctor that the tumor is already shrinking. I have been very lucky with chemo, it has made me tired but I havent had any nausea so its a fair trade off. I go in to the hospital for 5 days of chemo, then go home for 2 weeks and then back to the hosp for treatment, I am on my second of 6 treatments and Im sure I will get more tired as I get more treatments, but everything indicates that I will watch my kids grow up and drive my wife crazy for many years to come. I will definitely look at acupunture though, I have heard great things about it
