Growing out of Al-Qaeda in Iraq (although the group has never called itself that), far from coming out of nowhere, Islamic State has been around in some form since 1999.

Remember when Obama was going to restore America's credibility in the Muslim world because he grew up in Indonesia?

Really? I think it spells it out pretty good.

Without the invasion of Iraq....Isis probably doesn't exist.

why? do you think Saddam was going to live forever? It's inevitable that a vacuum was going to be created in Iraq, but Bush actually solved that problem and if security was retained in that country (even your messiah wanted to do so initially, they he quit like lazy men do)

And while he was in power, Saddam actually rewarded and financed like thinking terrorists organizations.

Not surprised an author for the New Yorker didn't think things through, it's tradition.

Y'all constantly come up with arguments that sound great on the surface which impress the ten second sound bite crowd, but as soon as you scratch below the surface they don't make any sense.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

never complete my first sentence: "if security was retained, a vacuum would not have been created".

A lazy, aloof and shallow president was responsible. The least prepared man in the room showed us why he earns such reputation time and time and time again.

Willie what Obama is doing is trying to diminish our role as the world leader as a country and yet trying to keep his stature as the world leader on an individual basis. Hypocrite supreme. Yes a guy who was a Freshman senator trying to run the world. A country that was well established and economic leader with military strength has fallen and continues to fall under his lack of leadership. The beat goes on.

By reading through this and the POV made and assumptions made of who is too blame.....

By using the same train of thought....Clinton deserves all the blame. If he would have killed OBL when he had a chance 911 wouldn't have happened. Therefore Bush wouldn't have invaded Iraq. Therefore Obama wouldn't have fucked up this whole Syria/Isis thing.

Now I get it.

according to factcheck.org Clinton didn't really have a chance to kill bin laden and there was no crimes against America committed by bin laden at the time in question anyway.

Dont ever let those pesky facts get in the way!!

Muslim 1993 WTC bombing; Muslim Khobar Towers bombing; Muslim US embassy bombings in Africa; Muslim USS Cole bombing; Muslim 9/11 attacks (planned while Clinton was in office)...all under Bill Clinton

After the worst terror attack in US history, Bush comes in and smokes Radical Muslims in Afghanistan and Iraq, then rounds up the leftovers and sends them to Gitmo; creates Seal Team 6 (the super elite strike unit that allegedly killed bin Laden); Libya gives up it's WMDs....and libtards squeal and respond by electing an undocumented community organizer, who has pretty much undone everything Bush did to make Americans safe.

Liberalism truly is a mental disorder.

Barack Obama, making his first visit to a Muslim nation as president, declared Monday the United States “is not and will never be at warwith Islam.”
Calling for a greater partnership with the Islamic world in an address to the Turkish parliament, Obama called the country an important U.S.ally in many areas, including the fight against terrorism. He devoted much of his speech to urging a greater bond between Americans and Muslims, portraying terrorist groups such as al Qaida as extremists who did not represent the vastmajority of Muslims.
“Let me say this as clearly as I can,” Obama said. “The UnitedStates is not and never will be at war with Islam. In fact, our partnership with the Muslim world is critical … in rolling back a fringe ideology thatpeople of all faiths reject.”
…………………………….
And he will still not recognize “radical islam” as an enemy – so I guess that he gives them a pass because they are in fact “Islam”.

[h=1]Barack Obama's Cairo speech[/h]I have come here to seek a new beginning between the United States and Muslims around the world; one based upon mutual interest and mutual respect; and one based upon the truth that America and Islam are not exclusive, and need not be in competition. Instead, they overlap, and share common principles – principles of justice and progress; tolerance and the dignity of all human beings.

I am a Christian, but my father came from a Kenyan family that includes generations of Muslims. As a boy, I spent several years in Indonesia and heard the call of the azaan [the Muslim call to prayer] at the break of dawn and the fall of dusk. As a young man, I worked in Chicago communities where many found dignity and peace in their Muslim faith.
As a student of history, I also know civilization's debt to Islam. It was Islam – at places like al-Azhar University – that carried the light of learning through so many centuries, paving the way for Europe's Renaissance and Enlightenment. It was innovation in Muslim communities that developed the order of algebra; our magnetic compass and tools of navigation; our mastery of pens and printing; our understanding of how disease spreads and how it can be healed. Islamic culture has given us majestic arches and soaring spires; timeless poetry and cherished music; elegant calligraphy and places of peaceful contemplation. And throughout history, Islam has demonstrated through words and deeds the possibilities of religious tolerance and racial equality.

So I have known Islam on three continents before coming to the region where it was first revealed. That experience guides my conviction that partnership between America and Islam must be based on what Islam is, not what it isn't. And I consider it part of my responsibility as president of the United States to fight against negative stereotypes of Islam wherever they appear.

So let there be no doubt: Islam is a part of America.

Let me also address the issue of Iraq. Unlike Afghanistan, Iraq was a war of choice that provoked strong differences in my country and around the world. Although I believe that the Iraqi people are ultimately better off without the tyranny of Saddam Hussein, I also believe that events in Iraq have reminded America of the need to use diplomacy and build international consensus to resolve our problems whenever possible. Indeed, we can recall the words of Thomas Jefferson, who said: "I hope that our wisdom will grow with our power, and teach us that the less we use our power the greater it will be."

We have the power to make the world we seek, but only if we have the courage to make a new beginning, keeping in mind what has been written.
The Holy Koran tells u: "O mankind! We have created you male and a female; and we have made you into nations and tribes so that you may know one another."
The Talmud tells us: "The whole of the Torah is for the purpose of promoting peace."
The Holy Bible tells us: "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God."
The people of the world can live together in peace. We know that is God's vision. Now, that must be our work here on Earth. Thank you. And may God's peace be upon you.
Today, America has a dual responsibility: to help Iraq forge a better future – and to leave Iraq to Iraqis. I have made it clear to the Iraqi people that we pursue no bases, and no claim on their territory or resources. Iraq's sovereignty is its own. That is why I ordered the removal of our combat brigades by next August. That is why we will honour our agreement with Iraq's democratically elected government to remove combat troops from Iraqi cities by July, and to remove all our troops from Iraq by 2012. We will help Iraq train its security forces and develop its economy. But we will support a secure and united Iraq as a partner, and never as a patron.
