I have approx $750 on me... If I had my way, I'd have around a grand on me at all times... That's a decent enough amount of cash to move thru the world on daily basis on and not so large that if you got robbed or went A.D.D. (like I tend to do) and misplaced it usually you won't be facing financial ruin over it.
Interesting thread... I'm not surprised by all the folks that say they don't carry cash... I didn't use to... then I got married and realized cash is the only way for me to spend without the better half having 100% visibility into my (fucking ludicrous) spending habits... I can rip thru $300-$400 a day and have nothing to truly show for it... Drives her crazy... So I try not to spend like a dumbass nitwit now, and when I do I just do it off the grid (in cash).
^^ See I tend to spend less when it's cash. It's almost like a game of "how long can I make this $200 last" unconsciously. On a card, I just burn through it and get surprised by my balance when I check it. I was really bad in college.
i got out of the habit of carryin a wallet back in my drinkin days. was wanted for failure to appear so changed my name and everything that went with it....i try and keep about 1000 cash but i dont carry it on me...old mason jar is my billfold and if i leave the house i take what i expect to spend..i dont like banks, cops, whoever knowin all my bidness
If I'm going somewhere that this might happen then sure I'll carry cash. But normally I don't hang on street corners where a dice game is liable to break out. Can't remember the last time my boss, pharmacist, a client, or a cashier has asked if I wanna start cutting the deck for sawbucks.
If I'm going to a super bowl party, for example, yeah I'll bring cash...obviously.
