Private education is way cheaper in costa rica?????????????? Are u kidding me. These schools are straight raping u. Cause they know they can. its either pay a rediculous amount or send your kid to a public shool which is not an option for most foreigners. dont know what part of the states your from, but these private schools are charing like 10,000 plus a year starting in 1st grade. get the fuck out of here. thats college prices. from elementary school. the lowest priivate school is like 7,000 elementary and they all rise every year. by middle school they alll are 10,000 plus up to high school. that and cars are what really piss me off. electonics, clothes, etc... u can just bring from the states. gas makes me mad too, but atleast its down to like 3 now. still wish i could get it ffor 1.50 like back home. everything else i like here but rain and traffic.

I am obviously heading for a mistake (since I don't have kids nor have I asked the prices) but I doubt all schools charge those amounts, I went to a private highschool (public school though) and the amount they charged was not even 10k colones back in the early 90s.

Of course that the ones that have all the bells and whistles (like international degrees etc) are going to charge an arm and a leg (specially if located in Escazu.

Similarly you can go through the entire university paying very little (or next to nothing, as yours truly did), I doubt I spent more than 1k in tuition for 5 years undergrad/1 year grad (example, if you get a position as a professors assistant where you grade quizes etc....you automatically pay nothing and even get a small check)

Education and health care are the ones where you can REALLY tell that there is an astronomical difference in price (the ideal situation here would be to raise a kid here and then send him to get a masters in the US and if the kid is gringo....then just get a job over there. A former classmate from highschool did that very thing)

While the price of cars pisses me off as well.....on the realistic side you are better off driving a piece of shit. If a taxi hits you ......no harm done......if someone steals it, again......no harm done. If it were up to me I would be buying disposable 80s Hyundai Excel (but unfortunately the wife has a say on these things arghhhhh)

If I drove a piece of shit (and that is debatable) I would play bumper cars for a week and would be loving it....

you and I , both, would be doing that

with my trusty old toyota I actually thought that, not because I drove agresively but simply because between the taxistas /the motorcycles and the ones that drove hyundai excels from the 80s...they always try to push you out of the road/force you to stop / etc and you also have the %#$%#$%holes with cars that cost about half a house....thinking that I Was going to be scared...LOL....with my tercel I always considered it 'acceptable damage' if I totalled it ....oh the good ol' days

I drive a bike and actually the ones who drive cars are as guilty as us

there as #$%$holes on both 'sides' BUT

if you see me waving in front/behind you and then between two lanes with a car just to get 5 seconds earlier to the next stoplight......(which is of course physically impossible with a car) I owe you a few beers :drink:

Honestly it puzzles me to death (excuse the pun) why so many motorcyclists 'drive' like they do (suicidal mode) ......don't they think for a second about the fact that if they hit a car because of their reckless way of driving......they are the ones that are going to kick the bucket?

btw I understand the point of view, but the larger the vehicule the more they think they own the road, and bikes don't come in large sizes

maybe when you drive a bike you will be able to see my point of view

let me give you my humble point of view

A) everyone in CR is a PILOTAZO....we can all drive like Michael Schumaher.......we have the reaction time of a tiger........the speed of a cheetah ....and the eyes of an eagle

B) therefore we can all tell , how much faster we can go and always cut in front of everyone and everything and also when to obey the red/green light or a yield or a stop sign

because of A and B we drive like maniacs (and also because we are totally swamped with cars)

problem is that when we figure out that A and B are BS.......crashes happen

and when you drive a bike and are about to hit a car......you are the one that has the most to lose

THEREFORE, you would imagine that motorcycle drivers would be more defensive but its totally the opposite....they all drive like this guy

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0088618/

and if you can get youtube....then this is the intro of the series (depending on your age....I am sure you saw it)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CCItnKrXvMM

my favorite of course is when the motorcyclists.........are riding their bikes at 100 kph just before a rotonda......and they are talking on the phone (I know, you need to see it to believe it)

I agree with your statement, there are also some that think that because there is a clearance of 1 milimeter between two cars that they can somehow squeeze in........and speed up........to the horizon.....and feel the freedom.......

How many cars you see passing bikes on the left and right...

How many bikes you see illegally crossing lanes and weaving in and out of traffic?

How many bikes stop for red lights?

What's the record for passengers on a bike?

How many bikes to you see coming at you in the same lane?

probably

now imagine the survival probabilities

a) bike versus my car (I drive a big-ugly ****ucker

b) car against my car

logic (or safety) dictates the bike should drive 'defensively' to SURVIVE.....but no......(and I am not saying the car shouldn't but my point is .....well you know what my point is......which is.....

do you drive like you want to see your kids again?

some of the motorcycles don't seem to care about seeing tomorrow's newspaper
