How did Green Day get elected into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?

My Older brother was into the Metal, Iron Maiden, Slayer ect.. I know they have loyal fan bases that have stuck with them, but Greenday is on another level, they've sold over 75 million records world wide, which makes them one of the most successful bands of all time. They are a first time ballot for sure and deserve to be in.

Yeah they still have a long way to go to catch up with Iron Maiden in record sales

Besides the majority of people have shitty taste in music, as Enfuego pointed out. The bands that get in are inferior to the bands that don't, at least from a Punk Rock perspective. I'd see Iron Maiden not getting in as a good thing. Bands like Metallica, Guns N Roses, and Green Day get in because they appeal to the masses that also like New Kids on the Block, and Barry. They're pussy bands.

Here's a band that I was truly shocked to see not in the hall. This isn't even my type of music so not much bias here. They were hot with the critics and the public and huge on the alternative scene. This is probably one of my favorite songs of all time.

I believe they just qualified in the last year or two. I'm sure they will make it since they have the blessing of Rolling Stone. They would have been a much better selection over Green Day also.
