it was a beautiful sunny autumn day...Yount hit two that day....I think Glen Gulliver homered for the O's, remember him? He was Mr Walk, guy had a great eye, not much else....Also remember Ben Oglivie making a game saving catch on a sliced ball by Al Bumbry down in the leftfield corner, at the time the game was close and the Birds were rallying til Oglivie came up with that catch.

Also Earl's last game, seen the replay many times... Cosell bidding goodbye to Weaver over the air as he shook Harvey Kuenn's hand.

Palmer finished that year 15-5 probably would have won the Cy Young ovr Vukovich had the won that last game....82 turned out being Palmer's last very good year....he had a one hitter vs the Twins earlier in that yr and was great down the stretch....'a game short'

I have no recollection at all of Gulliver.......too many dead brain cells...LOL. Man, look at the O's pitchers. Palmer, Tippy Martinez, Dennis Martinez and Mike Flanagan......and we got beat...................STILL UNBELIEVABLE that we lost that game. I seriously doubt I will ever get over that game.

Yeah I remember all those rosters too..I was a Mets fan..Seaver, Koos, Matlack,Kranepool, Kingman, Millan,Harrelson, and Staub were some of my favs from that era..
Remember when Texas Ranger Lenny Randle punched out manager Frank Lucchessi?..Randle was sent to the Mets and had a great year..Steve Henderson looked loike an upcoming superstar till Paul (Rick`s bro) Reuschel hit him in the elbow...

Hey those Pirates had a great lineup too..Like someone said Bosox too..If you have ever seen a picture of Dave (The Cobra) Parker wearing a faceguard type batting helmet..It was due to his home plate collision with then Met`s catcher John (The Bad Dude, played Middlelinebacker at Colorodo) Stearns...

Great years...Great thread idea..

dont think lacy played for the bucs that year. Robinson platooned with Mike Easler and John Milner (the hammer). Also Ed Ott platooned with Steve Nicosia.

We use to get the WOR network here in the 80's with the Mets games they were just starting to develop into the eventual powerhouse team, guys like Stearns and Henderson Hubie Brooks, Staub ,Tom Seaver was still there... Ralph Kiner and McCarver were the PBP guys...then 1985 and 86 and the Mets werea great team, somehjow they only won it all just once.

Oh yea Lacy was definitely there, as I recall he punched a fan in the face in Baltimore when the Pirates were celebrating the title , some fan tried to steal his hat...Lacy was on the 1979 championship team.

Lacy had a unique career, he became a regular player very late in his career, not til like age 35, he was always more of a platoon player ..than at around that age he became a regiular player, he was a solid hitter.

Yeah buddy..WOR from Secaucas, NJ I beleive..I just saw Mr Kiner`s corner do an inning for some broadcast ( Mets) last week..He still is ok..Ralph was a great player too...Joel Youngblood, Tom Greive and Bruce Boisclair for some names from the past..Was cool when we got George Foster, Doug Flynn, Pat Zachary from the Reds for Seaver
