Cubs are in the tank. If they do somehow back into the playoffs, I will throw money management out the window and bet 100% of my bankroll against the Cubs.

Chuck, not sure that would be wise. Realize that in a 5 game series your ace can pitch twice and if your ace wins you only need to win 1 our of the other 3. I don't care what his age is, Mark Prior is more than capable of winning 2 straight games against any team pretty much all by himself. I think the Cubs could manage to win either Zambrano, Wood or Clement's start. Always be careful betting against any team with a true ace in a 5 game series. Ortiz is pretty damn good but despite that he may vying for the Cy Young this year, he is not a true ace in my book.

Recent Cubs' acquisitions:

Lenny Harris
Kenny Lofton
Tony Womack
Tom Goodwin
Doug Glanville
Randall Simon

I'm guessing when Dusty made his comments about black guys, the words *old* and *washed up* were edited from the interview.

Harris is a recent Cubs castoff and Goodwin has been with them all year. The RECENT acquisitions are:
Lofton
Ramirez
Simon
Glanville
Womack
For the role these guys are in I would say they did a very good job plugging holes. Womack and Glanville are bench players and both add speed and defense which is always good. Lofton is one of the best leadoff hitters in the NL. Ramirez is a big talent at 3rd. Simon can really hit the ball, esp when he will only face right handed pitchers. Win or lose, Hendry did an admirable job. The Cubs are a much better team with these guys than without. St. Louis and Houston have done virutally nothing to improve their teams despite obvious needs.

Stros 1
Reds 3

Houston just lost two games at home with their best pitchers on the mound (Miller and Redding) against one of the worst teams in the league who's traded away half their team.

The Cubs split their first two on the raod against a wild card contender.

Houston 67-62
Stl. Louis 67-62
Chicago 66-62

Seems almost inevitable that this division is coming down to the last week and, sadly enough, 85 wins may take it.

astros bats are sleeping, the cubs bats haven't been there all year. zambrano & prior have been very good but that cubs bullpen....BRUTAL! kerry wood is definately hurt and that will kill this team.

cards get a strong outing from morris today. they should have enough in the tank to win this division by default.

The Cubs bullpen is just fair, but I wouldn't call it brutal. Brutal is unquestionably the word to describe the Cards bullpen. It's coming down to the wire and the Cubs have the easiest closing schedule. Could play in their favor.

i'd day both the cubs and cards have BRUTAL pens. i just get to see the cubs more since i live in chicago.

alfonseca = gas can
veres = gas can
remlinger = gas can
borowski and farnsworth are ok.

they should thank billy koch for taking all the heat in the chicago papers. i personally think alfatseca is just as bad.

Blue, there really is no comparison between the two. Bullpen ERA:
Cubs 4.03 7th NL, 13th MLB
Cards 5.13 16th NL, 29th MLB

I'd take any of Borowski, Farnswoth, Guthrie, Remlinger over anyone in the Cards pen with the exception of Isringhausen. Maybe even Veres too.

If the Cards had even the Cubs bullpen they'd be leading the division by 5,6 games.

what we have here is a horse race. Should be fun. For no real reason I hope the Cubs win it.

Well, gents, I think it's time to give credit where credit is due - the Cubbies did it.

Congrat to you, D2bets, and me for listening about that prop bet on the Cubbies to win the WS - looks like some hedges will have to be trimmed soon. Or maybe not.

Can you imagine if by some bizarre miracle, I mean seriously bizarre, the Cubs somehow meet the Red Sox in The World Series. Wrigley and Fenway. Nah. can't happen, can it?

Thank you Jazz.
The people doubting the Cubs were doing so mostly based on history and past reputation and not really on the current team. This is a theme I see in sportsbetting a lot and it's a source of opportunity when history is obviously not a good guide for current performance.

Now the Cubs get the Braves. That should be a real exciting series. Anyone see a line?
