Journey, you do realize that Sarge Matthews is the current Cubs hitting coach, right?
In case anyone didn't notice, Cubs took over first place today. They've gone from down 3.5 to up 0.5 in 4 days. At this rate, they'll clinch by Sept. 5!
Cubs are the hottest team this month, 10-4 in August.
Maybe the Cubs add a bench player but the lineup is set. No need to add a bat, players just need to do what they're capable of. 1-6 all capable of hitting .300 or close to it. Lofton, Grudz, Sosa, Alou, Ramirez, Karros.
Kerry Wood had nothing today. Could be hitting the proverbial "wall". Zambrano and Prior pitching more innings than ever before. Might have nothing left come September. Cubs have to play the Cards 8 more times. SEEEEE YA.
tony larussa is the worst??? eric, have you ever watched a white-sox game? jerry manuel is by far the worst manager in the game today. if it wasn't for terry bevington, manuel might be the worst manager in history.
last night in the texas/chicago game...its early in the game, no score. loazia is in trouble with guys on second and third and 2 outs. palmeiro is up and loazia falls behind. what would be the smart thing to do? maybe, walk palmeiro and get to a rookie (mark texeria)? he pitches to him and palmeiro hits a double. i have only managed a coed softball team for one year and i know that you'd rather face a rookie hitting .250 than a future hall-of-famer with 500 homeruns.
besides all that, i'd take larussa over baker any day.

Cubs played in the world series in '45. Did they not have a playoff series prior to the WS back then? I just assumed they did.
