Trump temporarily closes Sarasota office

Sarasota Visitors to Donald Trump's Florida headquarters in Sarasota are greeted with a sign saying the office is temporarily closed.
In an interview last week, Trump’s Florida strategist Karen Giorno said the campaign will be ready after the convention. "Donald Trump is a known brand," she said. "What we'll do after the convention is start to counterpunch."
A sign posted on Trump’s Florida office reads: “Thanks for stopping by our office! Our office is temporarily closed to the public, while our office works to prep for the National Convention in Cleveland.”
The sign includes contact information for anyone with questions(which reportedly can't take any more messages, lol).

Three times in the past week, Justice Ginsburg has publicly discussed her view of the presidential race, and said in an interview with The Times, “I can’t imagine what the country would be — with Donald Trump as our president,” joking that if her husband were alive, he might have said, “It’s time for us to move to New Zealand.” In addition, Justice Ginsburg called Mr. Trump “a faker,” who “has no consistency about him.” In that interview, with CNN, she added: “He says whatever comes into his head at the moment. He really has an ego.”

Mr. Trump responded on Tuesday. “I think it’s highly inappropriate that a United States Supreme Court judge gets involved in a political campaign, frankly,” he told The Times. “I couldn’t believe it when I saw it.

All of which makes it only more baffling that Justice Ginsburg would choose to descend toward his level and call her own commitment to impartiality into question. Washington is more than partisan enough without the spectacle of a Supreme Court justice flinging herself into the mosh pit.

He’s a business genius, he’s done a great job,” Eric Trump said. “He wants to run a country the same way as we — anybody — would run a company.”

“I mean, when you get into politics it’s tough … I think for my father has been a guy who’s just been out there,” Eric Trump said. “He’s broken the traditional mold both on the Democratic side and on the Republican side.”
Eric Trump also suggested his father’s strong stances on illegal immigration stem from safety concerns and not anti-Muslim or anti-Mexican bias.
“When are we going to take care of our people first? When does America come first? Now, often that gets spun into harsh rhetoric. But it’s not really harsh rhetoric. It’s actually a very kind of pro-American message,” he said.

“You’re going to take criticism and that’s the nature of politics.,” he continued. “And I think the day he came down that escalator I think we all accepted that. But he’s doing this for America, he’s doing this for the American people, and he’s doing it for the betterment of a country that he loves tremendously.”

Republican Platform Committee members on Tuesday voted to include language calling for the construction of a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border. …

Trump and his supporters have largely kept a low profile as the committee crafts the policy platform, which delegates will consider at the Republican National Convention next week.

As Popeye would say, "I yam what I yam".


Donald Trump is one of a kind. To quote the old phrase, he is “a riddle, wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma”. He burst onto the scene about 13 months ago, to widespread scorn, derision and laughter, and proceeded to steamroll his way through a field of 16 other candidates, which the conservative pundits called “the deepest GOP bench in a generation”. It wasn’t a fluke. He very specifically targeted and then manipulated his gullible audience with a well orchestrated mantra of slogans, dog whistles and outright lies. And he made it work.
Rachel Maddow had a brilliant segment on last night to show just how blatant Donald Trump was in stealing ideas and slogans from Richard Nixon. She showed archived videos of Nixon ads in 1968, first of him promising that he would restore “order” to the country, and then another one where he promised that the “law” would be followed in this country. Yesterday, in a speech Mein Trumpf said, “Make no mistake, I am the law and order candidate”. Richard Nixon called his supporters “:The Silent Majority”, insinuating that he would keep them safe from the rabble trying to take over the country. Sound familiar? And don’t even get me started on Trumps blatant plagarism of Reagan with his “Make America great again”. You can click on the applicable segment from the TRMS website HERE.
But the real problem is that Trump is a one trick pony. His ex campaign manager had one mantra and one mantra only, let Trump be Trump. That worked fine in the primaries, where he was throwing the basest type of red meat to the rabid, radical base that show up to vote in primaries, and he used it effectively. But then the dynamics changed.
Once Don of Orange was crowned the presumptive nominee, the campaign, along with the RNC and the Republican establishment watched in horror while he squandered 5-6 weeks of time when he could be first of all slamming Hillary Clinton while she was still distracted by Bernie Sanders, and secondly could be fundraising for the battle to come. Something had to be done.
Paul Manifort saw it, Reince Priebus saw it, and Trumps wife and kids saw it. He had to pivot from the primaries to a general election mode, and the sooner the better. Ergo, adios Corey Lewandowski. Time to bring the A-Team in to make Trump more Presidential. And they did their best.
Trump was never a serious Presidential candidate, this was all supposed to be a big, beautiful branding exercise on his way out the door and back to private life. But suddenly, probably to his shock he ended up being the GOP Presidential nominee! But the allure of the ultimate spotlight, not only in American politics but on the world stage was too much pull for an obsessive narcissist like one Donald J. Trump to resist. So he had to go through with it.
Step one. Make him serious. Aides started coming up with nonsensical policy position speeches that Trump was supposed to deliver. Step two. Hold them in formal settings, with hopefully friendly but more intelligent audience members than Trump was used to. Should be a foolproof plan. What could go wrong?
This. Der Trumpkopf is not a natural politician, especially not at the national level. He is a disaster in front of a teleprompter. His rhythm and cadence are off, he constantly moves his eyes from right to left to keep the teleprompters in sight, which shows a willful disregard from even studying the text enough to be able to allow him to look at the audience for a couple of lines to allow him to make eye contact with the crowd, and he is totally incapable of holding the room.His veterans speech today was a perfect example. Several times he paused, presumably because the teleprompter was blank for audience applause which was only sporadically forthcoming.
But it’s gotten even worse. Since his full body immersion into the world of Presidential politics and teleprompters, Orange Julius has lost his rhythm. In the last couple of weeks, at large rallies and without a teleprompter, Trump almost seems lost. He rambles, he repeats himself with apparently even knowing it, it’s almost like he’s now lost without the teleprompter, and he sucks when he uses that. And it shows. The crowd response is not what it used to be. Maybe its because the old saws have lost their teeth, but I believe it’s mostly because they’re delivered sporadically and without the force and venom that took Trump to the top in the first place. And believe me, since I’m retired, I can see him whenever he’s covered. The magic is gone.
Can Trump turn it around? It’s certainly possible, but fortunately I think it highly unlikely. He will still have his rabid support base of 30-40% of true believers, but his adventure into the world of serious Presidential politics, and the necessary world of teleprompters has thrown him off of his game in a way that I honestly don’t think that he can recover from.

Hillary Clinton and Donald J. Trump are tied in the crucial swing states of Ohio, Pennsylvania and Florida, according to new polls showing the presumptive Republican presidential nominee gaining strength on his Democratic rival because of doubts about her honesty. The polls show great improvement for Mr. Trump in Pennsylvania and Florida, where he is doing well with women and independent voters while gaining more support among men.


The polls are good news for Mr. Trump, but the same can't be said for Hilary Clinton from statements were disputed by the F.B.I., which said she was “extremely careless” with classified information.


“While there is no definite link between Clinton’s drop in Florida and the U.S. Justice Department decision not to prosecute her for her handling of emails, she has lost ground to Trump on questions which measure moral standards and honesty,” said Peter A. Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University poll.


Mr. Trump is seen as the more honest candidate and better suited to fight terrorism.


As with the Quinnipiac polls, the surveys show Mr. Trump gaining ground in the last month.

Mr. Trump has surged ahead of Hillary Clinton in two key swing states and tied her in a third, a slew of new polls out Wednesday showed, beating Hillary Clinton 42%-39% in Florida and 43%-41% in Pennsylvania. This marks a huge swing from Quinnipiac polls last month, which showed Clinton ahead of Trump in Florida 47%-39% and in Pennsylvania 42%-41%.
In addition to the state polls, Quinnipiac survey released showed both politicians tied in the swing state of Ohio, with both receiving 41% support.
"While there is no definite link between Clinton's drop in Florida and the U.S. Justice Department decision not to prosecute her for her handling of e-mails, she has lost ground to Trump on questions which measure moral standards and honesty," Peter A. Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Poll, said in a statement.
"We know the battlegrounds are going to be close til the end. That's why we need to keep working so hard," Clinton campaign press secretary Brian Fallon tweeted. "Trump is a serious danger, folks."

Trump announced the formation of the Israel Advisory Committee to analyze U.S. policy toward the State of Israel, enhance the unbreakable bond between the countries, ensure Israel’s military superiority within the region and research alternative solutions to the Israeli/Palestinian discord. The Committee will make recommendations to Mr. Trump.

Efforts to block Donald Trump’s nomination — For months, proponents have attempted to block Mr. Trump's nomination and as of 11:30 PM on July 15, this grass-roots movement among Republicans has failed.

“Anti-Trump people get crushed at Rules Committee,” Trump’s campaign manager Paul Manafort boasted on Twitter. “It was never in doubt: Convention will honor will of people & nominate @realdonaldtrump.”
The anti-Trump delegates could attempt to bring their fight to the convention next week, but it’s not likely since they have failed to be heard the past few months.

In a statement after the vote, a spokesman for Delegates Unbound, one of the organizations working to stop Trump, said, “The fight is far from over in Cleveland.”

On Thursday, Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg said that she regrets remarks she made earlier this week to the media, criticizing presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump. Mr. Trump and top congressional republicans were enraged and led Justice Ginsburg into the middle of the presidential campaign.
"On reflection, my recent remarks in response to press inquiries were ill-advised and I regret making them," Ginsburg said in a statement. "Judges should avoid commenting on a candidate for public office. In the future I will be more circumspect."

The Justice told CNN that "He is a faker," and that "He has no consistency about him. He says whatever comes into his head at the moment. He really has an ego. ... How has he gotten away with not turning over his tax returns? The press seems to be very gentle with him on that."

Mr. Trump called on Ginsburg to resign Wednesday, after she released this statement because that statement would encourage a divide amoung the Republican Party.
"Justice Ginsburg of the U.S. Supreme Court has embarrassed all by making very dumb political statements about me. Her mind is shot - resign!" Trump tweeted.
"A federal law requires all federal judges, including the justices, to recuse themselves if their 'impartiality might reasonably be questioned'," said Stephen Gillers, a legal ethicist at New York University School of Law. "Under this test, Justice Ginsburg's remarks would prevent her from sitting in the unlikely event of a 'Clinton v. Trump' case that determines the next president."
Biskupic said she believes the statement was a response to the criticism from across the ideological spectrum.
Former Ginsburg law clerk David Post said that she"stepped over the line" and congressional leaders were quick to blast Ginsburg's comment as inappropriate.
