Yeah, they are just rookies that is true, but running back is the position that requires the least "leap" from college to the pro level. Most good NFL RB's had good rookie seasons, neither White or Bush are on pace to have a good rookie season and while there is still time, it only takes 2 years for a RB to be considered a bust in this day and age. 2 years of non-1000 yard seasons as a RB will get you that tag quickly. As for Leinart, sure you have to give him much more time. He gets 3 years before anyone even definitively label him a bust or not, but it has not started off well. And with the WRs he has he doesnt have the excuses that others do.
Personally, I love the fact that these USC guys are struggling and it's not just because I'm a Notre Dame fan. ESPN crammed last year's team down our throats all year long and tried to convince America that this was one of the best teams of all time after they should've lost in South Bend and after Fresno came close to beating them in LA. Then, USC lost in the title game and (thankfully) all that talk went away.
