Ktv, I've heard that the US infant mortality rate is the highest because fetuses that would be normally terminated in the rest of the world are brought to term in the US resulting in a higher number of births, but a more deaths as well. Not sure why this infant mortality stat is always thrown around as nail in the coffin for US health care.

As for the life expectancy, we eat like shit, so we die young. That should be obvious.

having lower infant mortality rates and higher life expectancy rates than us? I know places like France have supposodly better diets (how I have no idea)
It's about time you manned up and made a post without knowing 100% the facts.

I hope everyone takes the time to watch this film and then comment...by the way, Moore has lost over 30 pounds in the last three months by walking more and eating more fruits and veggies...watched Larry King last nite interviewing Moore.....Moore must have listened to Mr. Hognuts....

I have never watched a Micahel Moore film as I believe most of them were just BS in my opinion. After watching him on Leno though, this is one that I just might watch. At least he appears from what he said to go after both sides equally. There are a lot of horror stories with regards to health care in this country.

What really sucks is that people who work hard and cannot afford health care get screwed while illegals come here and abuse the hell out of it. Once again it is the middle class who has to pay for everyone who abuses the system. The rich don't care and the poor get it for free. The costs are then passed on to the rest of us.

Nothing will solve the problem until the politicians stop taking money from lobbyists and the rest. Politicians say we can't get medicine from Canada because they are worried about the drugs not being safe. Who the hell do they think they are kidding?

I've said it numerous times in this forum, nothing will ever change until we throw every rotten politician out of office. That will never happen though because the same a-holes keep getting re-elected over and over.

So you've never seen a film of his, but in your own opinion - they were all BS.

Thats exactly what he said the movie was about. Because he glorifies the systems in Canada and England for being "universal" - doesn't mean that the bottom line HMO and managed care screw jobs don't happen on a regular basis and should be exposed here.

What really sucks is that people who work hard and cannot afford health care get screwed while illegals come here and abuse the hell out of it. .

When Moore was on the Daily Show he summed it up something like this. The system works great if you're really rich, or really poor. It's people in the middle who think they are covered that think they are covered that are going bankrupt paying for services they thought were covered.

This is true for so many issues.

IMO our tax code is at fault. Because the govt. has so much say over every facet of life through regulation, it pays to bribe them to pass laws that exempt certain industries and behavior. The cost of lobbying becomes an outstanding investment for the few at the expense to everyone else.

The infant mortality rate discrepancies are caused by different methodologies in reporting stillborn babies. In America, if the baby takes so much as a single breath, it is considered alive, and from there if it dies it's a dead infant. The Euro standards are much different from what I understand.

When I studied this, the same standards were used for the US, Canada, England and other Western countries. I'd like to see where you get your understanding on Euro Standards.

Will have to go back and find my source on that. Where's yours while we wait?

the statistics say next to nothing about the quality of the medical systems
Perhaps - but it does seem odd that these systems which are almost unanimously considered inferior still manage to surround themselves with patients that outlive us.

Well, we may be talking about different things here; if I understand you correctly you're referring to "medical system" in the context of public vs. private; I was speaking of standards and practices. You're arguing with the wrong person if you think I think that socialised medicine is worse than the nightmare we have in the US, the worst possible of all systems -- a half-assed hybrid that favours no one but the lobbyists and politicians at the expense of the sick and poor, while deflecting blame to the rich and the pharm. industry.

WE NEED TO SUPPORT SiCKO MORE THAN THE INDUSTRY IS TRYING TO STOP IT

As SiCKO begins its second weekend of general release, today Michael
Moore released a leaked Memo from Capital BlueCross detailing their
confidential counter-strategy to the release of the activist policy
change movie, SiCKO, and their efforts to try to minimize its impact,
from which we quote as follows:

"Ignoring its impact might be a successful strategy only if it flops
. . ."

Except it's not going to flop. And do you know why? Because we are
going to turn out in record numbers to see this film, and see it
again with our friends and neighbors. We're going to organize groups
and movie going parties to sell out every theater showing it in the
country. Here is the ticket finding link:

SiCKO TICKETS: http://www.sickotix.com

And to demonstrate just how serious Michael Moore is about making
real policy change happen, he is now prominently featuring DIRECT
constituent action pages on his own site, to empower those mobilized
by this revolutionary activist film to speak out for H.R. 676, the
Conyers/Kucinich health care reform bill.

ACTION PAGE:
http://www.michaelmoore.com/sicko/what-can-i-do/petitions/pnum649.php

This action page ALREADY has over 10,000 submissions, and with your
engagement we can push that number into the hundreds of thousands,
perhaps even millions. So go see the movie. Submit the action page.
And please forward the link above to everyone you know so that they
can do the same.

TELL DENNIS KUCINICH HOW PROUD YOU ARE OF HIS LEADERSHIP ON THIS

All through the dark years of the Cheney administration, who has been
more courageous that Dennis Kucinich, an original sponsor of H.R.
676, in speaking for what needs to be done to actually fix our broken
health care system? Won't you make a contribution to encourage Dennis
to continue stand strong on this issue and so many others?

KUCINICH DONATIONS: http://www.usalone.com/donations_kucinich.php

Please take action NOW, so we can win all victories that are supposed
to be ours, and forward this message to everyone else you know.
