I ran out of gas in the hood one time and was not excited about the prospects.

A car pulls up and asks me if I need help. I was skeptical but what else could I do but say yes.

Guy gave me a beer, let me use his gas can , drove me to the gas station and back
and didnt mug me.

I wasn't trying to rain on anyone's parade here. I just think people don't always think the situation through. Like Noonan suggested there has to be a good chance the cashier pockets it. If he does I guess so what as those being generous obviously could afford it and believe it or not I have done a few small deeds myself paying for someone when I see they are short money or driving someone to a gas station and back to their car as they had run out of gas. I'm sure we have all been in bad straits at 1 time or another. I know I certainly have. Sometimes you feel like nobody cares and then someone will surprise you. I actually do believe an occasional kindness to someone who needs it is good for one's own soul.

I've never heard of the practice of paying the bill for the guy behind me in a drive thru. I really would not recommend this course of action especially in this day and age.

I really was not going to post the following experience, but this is what I'm talking about.

A couple weeks ago I was in line at some burger joint. In front of me was an old grandpa who was taking his two granddaughters (ages somewhere around 6 and 8) out for a treat. His bill for the kids came to $12.00 and some change. Grandpa digs out a crimpled five dollar bill and a one dollar bill. That is all the money this guy has. The cashier tells grandpa his $6.00 is not to swing it. The kids are staring at grandpa with major disappointment. Grandpa just wants to find a hole and crawl into it. Enough was enough. I told Grandpa to put his money away and gave the cashier a twenty dollar bill to cover the bill. Later Grandpa thanked me, I told him not to worry about it and we both went on our separate ways.

what about when really bad things happen to good people?

Its all in how you choose to look at life and situations. If you're the kind of person who looks for things to be pissed off about, you will never be disappointed.

Called life

agreed. so good and bad things happen to good people.

just like good and bad things happen to bad people.

there's no correlation between being a "good" person and "good" things happening for that person.

i prefer to focus on the positive. I'm well aware bad things happen. Everyone is. I was making a positive statement.

I hear ya. Guess I'm more along the lines of an existentialist and find statements like that kinda funny and thought provoking is all.

Yeah dude, I'm not perfect by any means, but I do feel I'm a positive person for the most part. I'm not gonna get all philosophical in a gambling forum, but I think being positive and having positive thoughts as much as you can is a much healthier and happier way to live.

Anyone can bitch and moan all the time and I'm sure you know those people that do it. And if you notice a lot of negativity surrounds them.
