Lots of premium vodkas.....they are more pure (filtered) and can significantly reduce chance of hangover. I was on kettle one/soda only for about five years...

Is that like Club Soda and how do you mix it...like what ratio? I'd like to try that! tulsa

This thread got me to wanting a drink after work today.

So I tried Belvedere for the first time.

Whoa! Very Good Stuff.

Had it with Cranberry and lime. The vodka is very smooth and I can tell it would be good with your favorite vodka drink.

I highly recommend this vodka. Thanks Rx posters for bringing this to my attention. I'll now be on the Belvedere kick for a while.
Belvedere is every bit as expensive as GG. (I visted a bigger store) This is a sucky problem.

Kettle is OK. It's not the nuts. not on same level as GG.

Most liquor stores sell those little sampler bottles for those who like to try different things. I bought a GG for the decorative bottle and to try it. It smelled like rubbing alcohol.

quantumleap! You're a smart guy!!! Vodka pretty much is rubbing alcohol but not 'denatured' alcohol. I like rubbing alcohol. tulsa

Depends on how strong you like your drink; it's a matter of personal taste.
I would recommend 1.5 ounces of vodka and about 8 ounces of soda water, over ice.
I personally don't like vodka & soda, but that should be about the right ratio. Man up; drink gin, not vodka, and mix it with tonic, not soda! :103631605

My drink of choice for years was Goose on the rocks until about 6 months when a friend introduced me to Hanger One vodka.. I was skeptical because I have tried just about every vodka around and nothing has compared to Goose until now.. It runs more expensive than Goose. A 750ml runs around $45 but it is worth it.. If you mix vodkas with juices don't waste your time, but if you appreciate a good vodka on the rocks or vodka martini, give it a shot

Ketel 1 and Tonic... I'm having that right now... WOW!!! DELICIOUS.

Here is the deal, though. I thought Tonic was low calorie but it has nearly as many calories as coca cola. Man, this drink is GOOD though.

However, I'm going to have to go to soda and vodka to cut back on about 90 calories. I'm going to miss vodka and tonic...but I'm bringing vodka along and starting a new life elsewhere together so it is not all bad....

I can't stand flavored vodka. Yuk. Disgusting. I guess it might appeal to the martini crowd. It's terribe for shots. I'd rather have MGD.

Top rated:
Grey Goose is very good vodka. However, it seriously lacks in the value department. Same goes for Level (premium absolut). My favorite among the elite would be Ciroc from France. The smoothest drinking vodka I ever had the pleasure of consuming. Good stuff.

Middle of the road:
Stoli and Absolut are good and have some value as well. I prefer Absolut over Stoli.

Best value:
Finlandia, as the name implies, is made in Finland. I find it to be comparable to Absolut and Stoli but a good 10% less expensive.

Vodka is by far my favorite of the spirits. With OJ, tonic, or ice cold shots, vodka can relax even the most stressed of modern man.

While alchohol does have calories, I was speaking of the tonic alone.

Tonic Water has nearly as many calories (practically the same) as Coca Cola. 11 calories/ounce for Tonic water versus about 12 for Coca Cola.

I would like fewer calories with my mixed drink and thought Tonic water was the answer. However, last night I had my first Vodka and Tonic: Ketel 1 and Tonic HMMMMMM. Good. I can hardly wait for 9 p.m. tonight when I mix up another!!!!!!!!!!!

HOWEVER, once I finish this Tonic water I'm going to have to move on to vodka and maybe club soda with a lime or lemon wedge.

Try SKYY...... It is 1/3 the cost of Goose and very good. On an average week I go through about four 1.75 bottles

Awhile back I was channel surfing. Hit on a program that was doing a thing about vodkas. They went to an upscale bar/club in I believe NYC. There was 6(3 men, 3 women) people that were drinking vodka mixes. 4 said GG was there choice. The others 2 was at least 1 on Belvedere. Sorry the facts are a little clouded right now as I have left a lot of brain cells at bars and whereever.

The gist of this program was to show that GG was an upscale fad. First they had them all drink 4 blind(4 diff vodkas unlabeled) vodka mixes. I know one for sure one mix was cranberry and the others escape me. They also had to drink it SU. They all liked the mixed drinks with no real qualms about any. The cheapest vodka included in the test was Smirnoff.

The kicker came when it was SU. All hated GG. Belvedere was the only straight vodka that was approved.

My take on vodka and this test? GG is vastly overrated and it's popularity is truly a maketing gem. Lead the lambs to slaughter. The trick to a good mixed drink is to not allow the patron to taste the alcohol while getting the effects, simple enough. Why then would someone over pay for GG, when Smirnoff has the same results?

I am not a gourmet drinker, but my bro-in-law stocks GG. Hell yes, I'll hammer it, it's free. Have drank Stolie SU, I'll pass. For my money, Smirnoff's a bargain, even the 100 proof's OK. The worst I've ever tasted was Dark Eyes. Don't know if it's still out there, but that was nasty.

Prefer beer and I highly recommend Sam Adams lite if you're a lite drinker. None other in its class. Nuff said.

You know what, Harry?! I think I will try that diet tonic water from Canada Dry. You're right. I don't drink enough of that to worry about the aspertame or whatever artif. sweetener they use.

Thanks. I'll do that. tulsa
