Too much China virus talk. Lets have a sports thread. List your biggest choke or greatness denied via bad calls or massive injuries.
I'll start with the obvious

Jean van de Velde. All he needed was a double bogey on 18 to win the open!! We all know what happened.

Bad call:
Saints blown PI

Injury:
For some reason 2000 Cincinnati Bearcats and Kenyon Martin come to mind. Best player on the best team in the country breaks his leg in the conference tourney. I was living outside of Cincinnati so remember it well.

Pats in '11, '12, '13 not winning it all because Gronk was hurt

'11 he played in the SB but was clearly a decoy

Blown calls, that phantom Asante Samuel PI @ Denver leading to the Broncos getting a cheap TD before half cost NE. They win that then you really think they're losing to Pitt or Sea the next 2 games?

'07 Eli should've been ruled down on the Tyree pass

'08 Brady torn ACL 5 minutes into the season

That's all I got, memory a little foggy tonight since it is late

54:20...I haven't watched this play in years. A forgotten moment

Plummer likely sold his soul for this game

The Sacramento Kings were cheated out of a title - not a bad call but literally cheated

I am going to say 2004 ALCS Yankees up 3-0 over Red Sox and get swept next 4 games

You could potentially change a ton of history based on injury. Gets a little too hypothetical.

In the NBA, where the margin between stars and average players is massive or key starters and backups, there is a big injury almost every year that shifts balance of power.

Football being 1 of the healthiest teams in the NFL for the year is almost a prerequisite to playing deep into Jan, especially if you don't have an elite QB.

That's rich bringing up a bad call by a team that gets all the calls in the playoffs! Lets leave the Pats out of this thread. Most of my posts have been about all the cheating and calls given to them. Don't want to do that in this thread. Bump an old thread and we'll get back at it. LOL

The greatest team denied due to a bad (non call) has to be the 90 Italia world cup team! They did not give up a goal the entire tournament until the non-call (over 500 minutes of clean sheets!) and they had the leading goal scorer to boot!! A bad move by Zenga coming of his line to allow a modest header from Caniggia in. Game went to shootouts and Goycochea was a beast in goal, stopping penalties. The goal would not stand today as you can see Caniggia pushing off Zenga.

Italy up 1-0 illegal goal scored. Greatness denied!! Could have gone entire tourney without conceding a goal! They were that good!

On biggest choke job, it would have to be the Patriots losing to the Colts in the 2006 AFC Championship after starting off with a 21-3 first half lead. Not to mention they lost to that pig, Peyton Manning, the biggest sexual defiant on the planet. A disgusting man.

Italy got screwed by a cheating referee in 2002, it was a knockout game but not the finals. The ref called a flop on Francesco Totti resulting in a red card when he was mauled in the penalty box He couldn't possibly NOT go down on that tackle

Arguably the biggest scandal in FIFA history, certainly the worst call in 2002. How could somebody not break that smug ref's face right then and there, amazing restraint when you know he's cheating
