My personal pick cause I was there ....
----------------------------------------
Game 2 started as the opener had ended with the Tigers line-up driving San Diego starter Ed Whitson from the mound in the first inning with three opening runs. Despite the early deficit, Andy Hawkins and Craig Lefferts came in as relief and managed to save the outing with a little help from Bevacqua who was playing the role of designated hitter. Hawkins entered the contest with two out in the first and tossed 5 1/3 innings of one hit ball and Lefferts finished the job by striking out five Tigers in three scoreless innings. Still trailing 3-2 in the fifth, Bevacqua had stepped up to the plate and nailed a clutch, three run homer off Dan Petry for the lead. The 5-3 advantage remained with the San Diego bullpen completing the job that their rivals had initially started.

I just pulled up the box score. Yogi was in left. Some guy named Mantle was in center.

American thanks, I see the Yanks had 9 runs on 13 hits and still lost. That was the series where they won all their (Yanks) games by big scores, and lost the close games.

I quess I got the field where the ball went out wrong. I always thought it was to center.

quote:
Ralph Terry had gotten the final out during the eighth inning and remained in the game for the ninth inning. The count on Bill Mazeroski was one ball and no strikes before he deposited the ball over the left field wall.

as a dodgers' fan - hell will freeze over before i vote for bobby thompson (incidentally - the next time you hear the call of it - and you hear russ hodges screaming what he did - i heard a story about that - supposedly he forgot what the score was of the game - all he knew was the giants won - so that is what he said - and it gave him time to stall so someone could get him the score).

for me - kirk gibson in 1988 just beats out mark kotsay's mammoth shot over the center field backdrop in the 1995 CWS championship game - when we beat usc 11-5 to give cal state fullerton our 3rd CWS title in school history.

Only saw on tape but I'd have to go with Mazeroski. To hit a game-winning home run in late inning of 7th Game World Series - tough to top.

I'm a Sox fan and Fisk's homer (like Gibson's) had great drama but Maz's was the ultimate.

Had a lot of fun watching McGwire's record breaker but fact is the urgency wasn't there - if he didn't hit it then he could've hit it later.

How about an "entry" of the Yanks back to back 2 out tying homers by Posada and Brosius off BH Kim?

Not a Yankee fan, but Reggie's 3rd homer vs. Dodgers was great memory, and Jimmy Leyritz shot at the launching pad, all but said Yankees about to come back to win Series in 6 or 7..Braves were on way to another Series "el foldo".

Hard to say which is best homer, but my favorite all-time Series were by far:

1)Phils-Stros '81 NLCS..endless extra-inning marathons in almost every gm..Hail Tugger!
2)Dbacks-Yanks WS
3)Red Sox-Cincy WS
4)Yanks-Red Sox '78 extra gm
5 Yanks-Red Sox '03 ALCS
6)Pitt-Balt '79 WS

As a die-hard RED SOX fan, will admit Fisks homer was very dramatic.

However, Bernie Carbos 3-run shot to dead center to tie the game in the bottom of the 8th after looking like having no chance the previous pitch, was TWICE as dramatic to me.
