He should play...God will understand...I'm not Jewish but I think I would play, his team needs him, he is being paid to play....Just shows Green is selfish , what will happen if he plays, I don't get it....
thats the point, you dont get it. PLenty of jews in baseball play on yom kippur. Some like sandy koufax have chosen not to. Its a religious decision. If you would play, that is fine, and i respect that. But who are we to tell shawn green he MUST play? I could have sworn this country was formed to allow people the ability to have freedom of religion, amongst other things. So now we should ignore that concept because the dodgers are just are in a penant race?

Take it easy Buddy, this is a topic on a sports forum not a religious debate. I really could give a *CENSOR**CENSOR**CENSOR**CENSOR* one way or another becase the Dodgers are toast anyway. You obviously feel that he should be allowed not to play, and others should respect his decision, I do not. As a teamate or owner I would be angry, then again I don't take my religion as serious as most. Who am I to tell Shawn Greene what to do??? I am a poster on a internet forum, I really think he could give a fvck what I think.

this actually sounds like a good holiday.

1. briscuit is good
2. motza ball soup is good
3. no money matters. good. the day in and day out discussion of this for us paper getters we need a break. in fact, money disgusts me sometimes becuase in this biz it is talked about to the point of ad nauseum
4. being social and colectively celebrating something over some briscuit and soup we are happy and just enjoying life. what is wrong with that.

having said that shawn green is not having the best of seasons, but good for him he wants to celebrate his holiday. I guess as mentioned above it is just more public becuase the dodgers happen to be having a good year

I'm with primetime here. A man's religious beliefs come before his job. Millions of Jews and Christians and Muslims schedule time off from their employer for religious holidays.

As was said before, this is not the first time Green has done this. Perhaps he made an agreement with the Dodgers ahead of time or maybe it's in his contract. It seems that the Dodgers are ok with this. The matter of getting paid is between Green and his employer.
While not all Jews believe in taking time off for Yom Kippur, we should respect those that wish to.
